Durham Truck & Equipment Sales and Service has 10 openings at our Ajax, ON location for Licensed Truck and Coach Technicians/ Diesel Mechanics.

Permanent full time positions, with different 2 shift options available to suit you.
- Day shift: 6:30am-3:30pm Monday to Friday (5 positions available) OR
- Afternoon shift: 3:30pm - 2:00am Monday - Thursday (5 positions available)
- Both shifts require 1 Saturday per month 7:30am – 5:00pm

Qualifications /Skills/ Competencies

  • 310T Truck and Coach Technician Certification or “Out of Country” equivalent license with the understanding to upgrade to Ontario licencing requirements
  • Previous experience in a dealership or fleet setting as well as a highly evolved knowledge of Volvo or Mack trucks a strong asset but not essential
  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience inclusive of apprenticeship
  • Excellent written communication skills
  • Work under minimum supervision, and reporting to Service Manager
  • Physical strength with the ability to lift up to 50lbs
  • Dexterity - ability to work in awkward and various positions at times with manual dexterity
  • Able to work in a moderately noisy and climate changing environment
  • Superior problem solving abilities
  • Standard Ministry of Transportation G licence, DZ licence preferred
  • Must have good command of English language, oral and written

Pay/ Benefits

  • Compensation offers an hourly wage rate of $30.00
  • Work week consists of 42.5 hours per week and overtime as required
  • Master Technician hourly bonus of $1.00/hr applied for achieving and maintaining Brand Master Technician certification

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Ability to communicate succinctly to the job Foreman and/or Service Advisor on repair analysis
  • Perform diagnostic tests for routine and complex maintenance procedures
  • Accurate diagnosis (symptoms, problems and causes) for the work to be performed and obtain approvals for work orders
  • Determine a course of action for damaged parts and systems
  • Document all ongoing procedures on work orders including diagnostic codes, work to be performed and completed, parts ordered – complete and legible stories
  • Understand and work within job time lines to meet productivity quotas
  • Hands-on repair requirements to be followed for all required work to be performed
  • Adjust, repair or replace parts and components of automotive systems; test and adjust repaired systems to manufacturer's specifications; perform schedule maintenance service; advise customers on work performed and future repair requirements. Inspect and test mechanical units; diagnose faults and malfunctions; repair and replace mechanical units; test and adjust to specifications. Adjust, repair or replace parts and components of commercial transport truck systems; adjust, repair or replace parts and components of truck-trailer systems; test and adjust repaired systems to manufacturer's specifications; perform scheduled maintenance service.
  • Test drive vehicles pre and post repairs for accurate assessments
  • Building on “Best in Class” customer service, ensuring all service, repairs and operational aspects of vehicle when leaving our service department are in excellent working order with potential for additional value added revenues
  • Continuous personal improvement and updating job knowledge by participating in external/internal educational (online/in-class) manufacturers training opportunities and trade publications by required deadlines
  • Follow all internal Durham Truck Policies and procedures as it applies to the technician role and the department requirements
  • Adhere to the Health and Safety Policy within the shop environment at all times
