As the Product Marketing Engineer you will lead the marketing of the Greater Edmonton Pipe Operation’s products to specifiers across Northern Alberta, and provide technical design and drafting support with the goal of maximizing sales. Your marketing efforts will highlight the design and performance advantages over competitive products, with particular emphasis on:

Reinforced Concrete Pipe (RCP)
Concrete Boxes

To be successful you will communicate technical information, concepts and applications effectively using both consultative marketing skills and traditional selling styles to draw out and understand the specifiers needs to help them find solutions.


One-on-one technical training
Group design presentations and seminars that demonstrate an in-depth knowledge of the design of not only our products but also of competitive products
Letter writing
Field demonstrations
Develop marketing strategies and objectives in conjunction with Commercial Manager and Storm product specialist for Stromceptor and StormTrap products
Facilitate R&D for new product development
Maintain, and improve where possible, market share with respect to competitive product

Provide support to sales/estimating team during quoting process regarding product selection and product acceptance
Generate bi-weekly reports that recap prior achievements (meeting highlights, updates on upcoming projects, market intelligence etc.)
Responsible for updating product build plan on a yearly basis
Provide general sales support as required

Provide design assistance to specifiers for individual projects on the sizing of Stormceptors, StromTrap, special pipe and box culvert designs
Provide product design support for plant production and sales groups
Assist with design and drafting as required

Represent the business unit in various industry and trade associations and specifiers
Respond to all matters related to marketing issues
Coordinate regional advertising activities for increased product exposure
Conduct and co-ordinate plant tours for specifiers
Provide month end and year end reports on sales, profitability, segmentation etc.
Represent Lafarge on Canadian Concrete Pipe & Precast Association (CCPPA)

Assist with technical and operational issues related to product development, production and marketing issues
Assist contractors with product installation, and provide follow up to ensure owners comply with maintenance & inspection requirements in conjunction with Storm product specialists.

Relationships with Other Jobs:
Reports to the Commercial Manager of Greater Edmonton Pipe and works with the Operations Manager, Estimators, Quality Control Supervisor, Logistics Supervisor, Dry & Wet Cast Foremen, Dispatch/Administrator and Administrative Assistant.

Education & Experience:
Bachelor of Science in Engineering (Civil Preferred) or CET.
Preference will be given to P.Eng candidates; candidates with their professional designation in progress may be considered.
Experience with and understanding of consulting engineering industry.
Experience with and understanding of contract law.
Familiarity with design approvals for municipalities and/or governments.
On-site construction experience considered an asset (inspection of municipal projects).
Design experience.
Drafting experience.

Ability to make rational decisions and resolve conflicts.
Must be a team leader with excellent negotiation and people skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills – ability to write and speak succinctly in a variety of settings and styles.
Strong working knowledge of Gmail and the Google Platform is required.
Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Excel and Word, is required.
