We are currently searching for a Benefits Clerk (Pay Grade 8), 12 months per year, 35 hours per week. The current rate per hour is $25.42.
Completion of Grade 12 diploma supplemented by a certificate or diploma in office/business administration; completion of an introductory payroll course (completion of the Canadian Payroll Association Payroll Compliance Practitioner Program (PCP)) is preferred.; two years related experience in a large integrated payroll and benefits environment; demonstrated knowledge of statutory and legislative regulations; demonstrated knowledge and understanding of collective agreements; demonstrated knowledge and understanding of employee benefit plans; proficient in Microsoft WORD, EXCEL, and relevant Microsoft Office Suite programs; minimum word processing speed of 40 wpm; ability to exercise a high level of professionalism and discretion with confidential information; ability to organize and prioritize duties with strong attention to detail and high level of accuracy; ability to handle high volumes of work with constantly changing deadlines and constant interruptions; experience in the use of relevant office equipment; meets the physical requirements of the position; ability to work independently and as a member of a team; excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Duties are performed under the supervision of the Payroll Supervisor or designate; arranges benefit coverage for new employees in the district; monitors employee eligibility for benefit, ensuring coverage is offered in a timely manner; provides benefit information to employees; enters employee benefit data into databases for insurance carriers and service providers; creates and maintains benefit deductions in the payroll system; reconciles benefit deductions to the billing amounts and prepares all monthly carrier invoices for payment; prepares and maintains benefit premium rate sheets and benefit booklets for each employee group; prepares benefit billings for employees and processes employee payments; assists with Pension Corporation transactions, including determining eligibility, submitting forms, and performing pay history research; responds to all benefit queries in a timely manner; provides support for Payroll Clerks as required; provides coffee break and lunch-time relief coverage for District Receptionist as needed; follows proper work procedures, observes all regulations pertinent to the work, maintains a good working relationship with other employees and cooperates in maintaining a healthy learning and working environment; performs other related duties as assigned by the Supervisor.
