BIOSTATISTICIAN (RESEARCH ANALYST) – FULL TIME

The ICES Kidney, Dialysis and Transplantation (KDT) program is seeking a motivated biostatistician (Research Analyst) to work collaboratively with ICES researchers and staff, applying research methodology in the context of health services administrative data. ICES KDT operates out of ICES Western, a satellite site of ICES in Toronto which officially launched in 2012. ICES Western is located within the London Health Sciences Centre (LHSC) at Victoria Hospital in London, Ontario. The biostatistician (Research Analyst) is an employee of LHSC and Lawson Health Research Institute.

Number of positions available: 1

Starting salary range: $50,000/year - $56,000/year; commensurate with experience

Hours of work: 37.5 hours per week

Vacation Entitlement: 15 days (can also take up to 20-days more in unpaid vacation per year)

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Co-develop research study designs and analytic plans;
  • Create SAS programs to extract, merge and manipulate data from existing large healthcare databases;*
  • Conduct complex exploratory and statistical analyses, interpret results, summarize and synthesize results for presentation to investigative team and external stakeholders;
  • Participate in manuscript and report writing;
  • Maintain and expand professional analytic skills;
  • Perform other duties as appropriate and necessary for the efficient functioning of the team.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

  • Willingness to participate in a supportive and collaborative team environment, one that shares knowledge to all staff;
  • Ability to apply, learn and understand new and existing statistical methods to studies as appropriate;
  • Strong quantitative experience using SAS statistical software including competence in SQL, macro writing and statistical analysis of data;
  • Demonstrated skill at merging data from multiple sources and working with large, complex datasets;
  • Attention to detail particularly when following study protocols, developing data measures and resolving data anomalies;
  • Ability to prioritize based on shifts in program needs and role changes;
  • Knowledge of health services research concepts as well as epidemiologic study design and analysis with administrative data considered an asset;
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills for working closely with local and remote teams of investigators, trainees and other biostatisticians;
  • Setting priorities against shifting program needs in order to meet deadlines
  • Ability to maintain strict confidence as required when interacting with stakeholders.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Master’s degree in biostatistics, statistics, analytic epidemiology or a related discipline;
  • Demonstrated proficiency in data management and statistical analysis;
  • Two years of healthcare data analysis experience is strongly preferred.
