Under the direction of the Supervisor, Janitorial Services, the Floor Care Technician will perform preventative, routine maintenance floor care using specialized equipment. The Floor Care Technician will carry out floor remediation and renovation projects as well as participate in overseeing the in-house waste collection and compaction program.

Responsibilities & Duties:
Develop and maintain a schedule for routine floor care and maintenance throughout calendar year at all UFV campuses
Performs repair, restoration, and remediation to all types of flooring including (but not limited to) vinyl, poly-composite, carpet, concrete, etc.
Performs flooring renovation project work including marmoleum removal, concrete grinding/polishing, and carpet repairs
Operates machinery necessary to perform job, including backpack, upright and canister vacuum cleaners, buffing machines, swing and auto-scrubbers, water pickups, upholstery cleaners, carpet shampooers, extractors, floor machines, hard surface cleaners, hand and standing grinding equipment, etc.
Oversee and maintain UFV’s in-house waste collection and compaction program
Use of motorized vehicle to collect and transport mobile waste carts to central compactor station for contractor pick-up and returns empty containers to housed locations
Assists in janitorial support as directed by the Janitorial Supervisor as required including but not limited to classrooms, offices, hallways, entrance and maintains the daily general appearance and cleanliness of UFV Facilities
This position will require the successful candidate to travel between the Abbotsford, Chilliwack, and Clearbrook campuses.

High School diploma or equivalent
Equivalent of one year post-secondary education in related field
Building Service Workers Certificate mandatory
A basic knowledge of the methods, materials, and equipment used in custodial work as identified and defined by the UFV Custodial Services Operations Manual, as well as the Building Service Worker (BSW) program requirements
Has a sound understanding of floor repair and various types of flooring including carpets, linoleum and marmoleum
Ability to use construction tools and materials to perform various repairs to flooring
Has experience in the techniques and methods used to facilitate concrete grinding and polishing
Ability to run and operate compactor machinery on a daily basis. This includes loading and unloading waste bins
Ability to read and interpret documents such as procedure manuals, safety rules, and operating and maintenance instructions and fluently communicate their content
Ability to stand, walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and talk or hear
Ability to lift up to 30 kg., and push tipper bin loads of up to 150 kg on an intermittent/daily basis
Good knowledge of custodial practices and procedures
Good communication and computer skills an asset
Must have valid driver’s license and be in good physical condition
Five years of custodial practices and procedures
Three years floor care restoration experience required
Experience operating hydraulic machinery an asset
