Reporting to:

Human Resources Manager


The Health and Safety Advisor is a member of the HR Department and acts as a lead person in the area of Health and Safety. The role is responsible for monitoring and assessing hazardous and unsafe situation and developing measures to assure staff safety.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Correct unsafe acts or conditions through the regular line of authority but may exercise emergency authority to prevent or stop unsafe acts when immediate action is required;
  • Administer and monitor WCB claims
  • Take a lead role in work injury investigation
  • Conduct health and safety trainings and issue training certificates
  • Track Safety Administration documents (including work hazard assessment tools, safety trainings & orientation, lock out tag out, MSDS and other safety tools inspection reports)
  • Conduct tool box meetings and safety orientation for new employees;
  • Inspect and certify fire extinguishers, harnesses and lanyards, forklift and scissor lift monthly v
  • Create, compile and maintain appropriate records and documents for regular reporting to WCB and other government agencies
  • Recommend and distribute appropriate Personal Protective Equipment
  • Manage a schedule of maintenance, inspection and disposal of Personal Protective Equipment
  • Facilitate meetings of safety committees and programs
  • Promote safety culture by role modelling safety practices & procedures


  • Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety;
  • A minimum of five years hands-on experience in Health and Safety;
  • Exemplary interpersonal skills and exceptional verbal and written communication skills;
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint);
  • Working knowledge of PPE requirements and OHS standards;
  • High degree of accuracy and attention to detail;
  • Working knowledge of safety, human rights and labor standards legislations in Alberta;
  • Strong dedication in providing excellent customer service;
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills;
  • Goal oriented and enjoys the challenge of working under deadlines;
  • Credible and able to set a good example in relation to health and safety.

Job Type: Full-time


  • hands on facility: 3 years (Preferred)
  • HSA: 5 years (Preferred)
  • WCB claims: 5 years (Required)
