City Dispatch’s Job Purpose
Builds and maintains customer satisfaction and loyalty by scheduling, coordinating and dispatching contracted owner operators and/or company drivers to pick up and deliver local (city) LTL and/or TL shipment requests in timely manner.
Duties & Key Responsibilities:
Quickly analyzes the information received from the caller and dispatches the required vehicles
Coordinates, schedules, manages, and communicates all pickup and delivery requirements to drivers via telephone and/or pre-planned trips.
Configures routes daily for pickup and delivery for drivers; ensuring on-time pickups and deliveries
Optimizes driver trips and routes to ensure truck and service capacity
Monitors and maintains constant communication with all drivers at all times.
Responds to customer inquiries and requests for pickups; tracing and delivery requirements immediately
Resolve work-related problems and monitors work related accidents, and incidents. Ensure that incident reports are accurately and promptly completed.
Tracks any habitual problems. Investigates situations for root causes, and provides corrective solutions to problems to avoid reoccurrence.
Directs, controls and enforces regulatory compliance procedures within Ontario Ministry of Transportation guidelines
Ensures smooth operations daily dispatch operations including computer systems, loading equipment and machinery and arranges for maintenance and repair work when needed.
Advises and informs drivers of route and traffic problems such as construction, accidents, congestion, weather conditions, weight and size restrictions and other information.
Other customer service or after hours support as required
Minimum 2 years previous experience in asset dispatch role.
Extensive knowledge of City LTL Dispatch
Excellent planning and organization skills- excellent spatial and reasoning skills
Must have knowledge of Ontario Transportation and Safety Regulations
Must have the ability to multi-task in a fast pace and dynamic atmosphere
Must have the skills and ability to utilize computer software
Must be computer literate (word, excel, outlook, internet explorer ie. Google maps and search addresses)
Mechanically inclined (i.e. able to pre-inspect truck vehicles, and perform preventative maintenance techniques).
Must have excellent internal and external communication skills
