Job Description

What You’ll Be Doing

Reporting to the VP, Business Banking you’ll be responsible for the oversight and governance of credit for the Business Banking organization nationally. Your responsibilities will include implementing and managing a formal escalation and credit oversight process for Business Banking, including credit reviews and escalations, to ensure sound credit practices. You’ll work closely in partnership with the Risk organization, to ensure that a balanced approach is in place to manage risks associated with credit, while maintaining market competitiveness.

How You’ll Succeed

Governance - Work with the Risk Management group on developing and implementing appropriate risk strategies for Business Banking. Ensure Business Banking needs are met with respect to effective controls pertaining to capital and risk management. Improve the quality of the Business Banking credit portfolio by ensuring due diligence and credit expiry management strategies are employed. Manage the overall performance and quality of the Business Banking credit portfolio.

Credit Oversight – Provide oversight for the Business Banking credit function nationally. Identify Region trends, successes and opportunities to influence credit performance and make recommendations to the Leadership team. Implement a formal escalation and credit oversight process within Business Banking. Act as a point of escalation to resolve any pricing or credit issues and liaise with Risk Management for any escalated credit issues not in compliance with CIBC standards/procedures. Interact directly with clients as required, acting as the connection between the Client and Risk Management on credit escalations. Act as the first point of escalation for the business on credit fulfillment issues.

Team Leadership - Develop training material to improve credit knowledge within the Business Banking sales organization. Work with the Business Banking sales organization, coaching Directors and Sr. Managers on the narrative of credit structure. Work with the Business Banking sales force to provide guidance on deals from a credit perspective. Manage client issues as they relate to credit. Manage overall performance and quality of the Business Banking credit portfolio. Provide support to the VP in ensuring the quality and effectiveness of the business. Create a positive work environment and being an effective role model by championing CIBC’s mission, vision and values.
