One of Canada’s largest financial firms is currently on the lookout for a Corporate Assistant for their excellent Legal and Compliance team. This is the perfect role for International (Common Law) lawyers looking for legal contract work. The Corporate Assistant (Legal Advisor) will be responsible for providing a full range of in-house legal and compliance services, all across the firm’s business lines, further building internal capabilities to increase the need for legal services with internal resources. A strong background in legal research and analysis, and experience working within the financial services market both at the domestic and/or international level is considered an asset.
The salary range is dependent on the individual possessing full job knowledge, qualifications and experience.
Engage and work with external counsel to assist with assessment and resolution of legal issues
Work closely with all business units and provide a strategic blend of business and legal advice to employees at all levels in the organization
Contribute to the preparation, review and finalizing of legal and other corporate documents including resolutions, policies, affidavits, commercial agreements, key agreement and policy templates, and making recommendations to General Counsel as required
Conduct legal research on a wide variety of issues as they arise
Support firm in corporate governance matters
Assist with regulatory filings, maintaining corporate records, and preparing affidavit in response to production orders
Work independently and collaboratively within an entrepreneurial team environment, while using effective communications skills and self-motivation
Perform any other related duties as required by the Assistant Corporate Secretary
EDUCATION & QUALIFICATIONS
Experience with Corporate/Commercial Law (minimum 3-4 years) and/or Common Law experience as a lawyer either in a law firm, in-house with a mid-sized entity
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook etc.,)
Knowledge of Trust & Loan Companies Act and regulations, Bank Act and regulations, PIPEDA, AML/ATF, Privacy, and CASL legislation will be considered an asset
Strong written and verbal communication skills, able to communicate at all levels of an organization, internally and externally
The ability to practice sound discretion and judgment at all times
