ABS purchased 62,000 tons of Certified Emission Reduction (CER) credits from the Landfill Gas Capture Facilities of the City of Peterborough. The CERs are used to offset a portion of the carbon dioxide emitted from using natural gas and electricity by Active Business Services and its clients.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, driven, and hard-working Solutions Engineer to join our extremely talented pre-sales solutions team. You will assist as a trusted advisor in qualifying inbound leads and driving outbound campaigns. More importantly, as a pre-sales solution advisor you will prove how our ABS platform combines commodity purchasing decisions with real time client consumption data through an innovative analysis process. The sales team will rely on your analytical and product expertise throughout the sales cycle.


  • Perform technical client discovery qualifications and ultimately make strategic recommendations through product demonstrations and proof of concepts
  • Qualify and develop inbound and outbound sales leads while actively responding to inquiries
  • Actively run strategic email and phone campaigns to a variety of verticals to generate new prospects
  • Complete accurate tracking of campaigns and solutions in ABS Portal
  • Schedule qualified product demonstrations and complete sales cycle from initial outbound call to execution of customer agreement

New to Pre-sales? Core skills needed for success:

  • Bachelor’s Degree, College Degree or equivalent work experience
  • Hands-on data analysis experience in Excel either in an enterprise or academic level
  • Excellent presentation skills combining composure and ability to drive towards a mutually beneficial solution
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Seasoned Pre-sales professional? In addition to the items above, skills needed for success:

  • Pre-sales commodity experience, proven track record of establishing trust and ability to influence key decision makers and lead high level risk tolerance conversations
  • Hands on experience with interval and non-interval electricity data, utility consumption and reporting
  • Ability to travel as needed and work flexible hours
  • Ability to deliver compelling results-focused solutions with strong attention to data and details

What does the first 12 months look like?

Three months:

  • Become certified in Active Business Services training modules
  • Complete ABS sales training.
  • Learn to build solutions through shadowing and role playing
  • Create customer-facing energy assessments

Twelve Months:

  • Become certified in all products and services.
  • Successfully delivery an energy assessment by end of second quarter
  • Strategically partner with Energy Consultants and support marketing activities (blogs, community engagement, industry events)
  • Scope, plan and deliver custom-tailored client solutions
  • Develop proof of concepts
  • Learn to perfect your craft through completing sales cycles from start to finish
  • Participate in ongoing improvement of Active Business Services products by providing customer feedback to marketing/engineering
