Established in 1929, Vince’s Market is an independent grocery chain with locations in Sharon, Newmarket, Tottenham, Uxbridge and Upper Canada Mall.
We’ve built a strong reputation for fresh foods, personalized service, and great value. But don’t just take our word for it. Vince’s Market has been recognized as one of Canada’s top companies by the Canadian Federation of Independent Grocers, and some of our stores have even been named the 1st or 2nd best independent grocer in all of Canada!
The secret to our success is the hard-working team at Vince’s, who are passionate about food, and love building great relationships with our local customers. We care deeply about finding the right people to fill our roles, because when our employees are happy, then they’ll make sure our customers are happy too.
And that’s where you come in. Vince’s Market currently has a unique opening for a part time, night-shift position in our expanding ‘ready-to-serve’ business, which supplies our stores with freshly made items every single day. This role is a combination of food preparation in the morning, and delivery in the afternoons. It’s a key position in a rapidly growing business, and the variety of tasks will make the day fly by.
More About the Job
Vince’s Market is known for having delicious fresh produce, meats, and cheeses, but until recently we had never put these things together for our customers into ‘ready-to-serve’ items like sandwiches, soups, and salads. We began experimenting with preparing these items in the back of one of our stores, and our customers loved it – and now we’re expanding the operation big time.
Here’s what a typical shift looks like in this job:
Pack up the orders and do nightly clean up
Prepare the next days items - this means slicing, chopping, mixing, etc.
Responsible for food preparation and the maintenance of product quality
Follow company recipes, policies and guidelines
Ensure the quality and freshness of products at all times
This full-time position will provide approximately 35-44 hours per week, consisting of days, evening and weekend shifts. The hourly pay rate walking in on your first day could be as high as $16-$18 commensurate with experience and guided by our standardized and transparent compensation scale. We also have the opportunity for a terrific benefits program that would kick in three months after you’re hired.
Who We’re Looking For
Many of the best employees at Vince’s never imagined they’d be working for a grocery store. But they love people, and they love food, and that means they love helping people find great food – and that’s the kind of person we’re looking for. The most important skill for this position is the ability to chop, slice, and prepare the foods.
Here's a list of the main things we’re looking for:
Fluent in English and legally able to work in Canada
Ability to do efficient food preparation (chopping, slicing, prepping)
Willing and able to regularly lift packages up to 40 pounds
Flexibility with working hours
An Asset: Experience creating efficiencies (e.g. faster processes, packing, routes, systems, etc)
Why Work at Vince’s?
Working at Vince’s Market is quite different than those big grocery store chains. When you’re small and independent your strength lies in the creativity, personality, and passion of your people – not in some top-down corporate strategy.
At Vince’s, each department runs their own show, and makes important decisions as it relates to what we stock, how we display it, and how we serve our customers. In this job your ideas and input will be valued, as we empower each team to figure out how to best serve our customers, and the business.
Our other strength is in having long-term, passionate employees. You won’t be treated like a number around here – you’ll be respected, and there’s an open door policy to engage management about anything that could be better, or isn’t working. We like to work hard at Vince’s and that’s because we like what we do, and we like each other. Our people are friendly and our teams are tight, because they not only enjoy working together, but also have fun at the many BBQs, family outings, holiday parties, and volunteer activities that each store organizes.
And finally, you’ll also notice that we’re pretty focused on fostering personal development for our people. From increasing their financial acumen, to doing monthly, quarterly and annual performance feedback and management reviews with every employee– it’s all about the growth. We are also committed to expansion, so there’s lots of room to get promoted, and we always look to promote from within.
