Acuren is currently recruiting a MACHINIST to support Laboratory and Physical Testing operations. This position will be based out of our office in Richmond, BC. Reporting to the Lab Manager, the Machinist will safely operate cutting, milling, surfacing and other related machinery for specimens and coupons for physical testing, forensic engineering and non-destructive testing. This a dynamic opportunity for an individual with a machining background and aptitude for problem solving and working with their hands that is interested in working in a world class metallurgical laboratory.
Follow ISO and company quality standards;
Set up, operate, and maintain machining equipment such as lathes, milling machine, cutting saws, and grinding machines;
Prepare test specimens to the requirements of various codes and standards such as ASTM, ASME, CSA, AWS, as well as non-standard specimens according to supervisory instructions
Maintain machine shop equipment and safety/maintenance checklists as directed by Physical Testing Supervisor or Laboratory Manager
Conduct equipment repair
Make jigs and fixtures according to drawings and instruction;
Fit and assemble parts
Work with engineering group on preparation of precision specimens for forensic for analysis.
Minimum of 3 years' of relevant machinist work experience (previous experience in a metallurgical lab would be a strong asset)
Knowledge of ASTM, CSA, ISO, Lloyds, ABS, DNV and other standards for mechanical testing coupons would be an asset
Strong verbal communication and with ability to follow written directions
Team player with willingness to learn and develop on the job
