About the Position

The Key Intervenor position is responsible for providing direct support and on-going Intervenor services to persons supported who are deafblind. The Key Intervenor:

is responsible for providing communication and information to the person supported.
assists the individual who is deafblind to communicate
assists with life skills (including personal care routines, health routines, lifts and transfers, light housekeeping etc)
and most importantly, assists the individual to achieve as much
independence as possible within their situation.

The Key Intervenor provides input and participates as part of the team, in the overall program development and ensuring the health and safety of the consumer. The Key Intervenor will be responsible for providing on-call support to a designated team of Intervenors on a rotational schedule.

Education and Experience Required

Completion of post-secondary education in the Intervenor for Deablind Persons program; Developmental Services Worker (DSW), Social Services Worker (SSW), Community Services Worker (CSW), Communicative Disorders Assistant, or a related human services field services
In-depth understanding of deafblindness and Intervenor services
2-3 years' experience working in the field of deafblindness and Intervenor Services
The ability to understand different communication methods and learning styles
Good organizational skills and critical thinking ability
Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and display professionalism at all times
The ability to prioritize, handle pressure, and work within deadlines
The successful individual must be willing to pursue leadership or supervisory training through professional development
Communication skills in both official languages (English/French) is an asset

Other

A valid Ontario driver's license, clean current drivers abstract and access to a reliable vehicle is required
Employment is conditional upon receipt of successful Vulnerable Persons Police Clearance
Pay Rate: Hourly rate + $0.75/hour

Working Environment and Physical Demands

The position involves working in a variety of settings i.e. supported independent living program and community environments
The position is working out of our Kingston supported independent living program in the Eastern Ontario region
The position requires repetitive hand motion and good manual dexterity; moderate stooping, bending, and lifting up to 50lbs
This position works outside and inside and requires the successful individual to provide physical support to consumers
Limited travel within the province of Ontario is required
The successful individual must be able to work a flexible schedule including days, evenings, overnights and weekends on a rotational schedule
