Here’s the impact you’ll make and what we’ll accomplish together

You will join the SmartHome Security Development Team and focus on the development of the central monitoring platform and the UL standards that govern security devices, systems and physical infrastructures. Our team is responsible for developing and supporting technologies to drive an exceptional customer experience across consumer, business and health portfolios. The team works with internal and external partners to develop new products and services and provides the highest tier of support for security and automation products at TELUS. We spearhead complex root cause analysis investigations and drive reliability improvements through technology innovations.

Here’s how
Developing the Mastermind integrated software platform that is used in our central monitoring stations
Integrating receivers and video event verification products with Mastermind
Certifying software releases for all central monitoring station components
Identifying defects during lab validation, working with the product vendor to resolve the defects and tracking the defects for closure to ensure product quality and reliability
Becoming a subject matter expert in the UL standards applicable to the security and automation industry
Working with internal teams and vendors to define requirements needed to build UL compliant products and services
Enabling new services by leveraging TELUS and partner cloud services where appropriate
Creating and maintaining detailed documents on recommended best practices

Qualifications

Here’s what makes you the perfect for this role:
You possess a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Computer Science
You’ve configured and managed large scale software solutions in an enterprise environment
You are familiar with network components like switches, routers, proxies and firewalls and can design, build and configure networks between system elements
You are able to implement automated processes for monitoring and managing software platforms, including integrating into analytics tools like SPLUNK and/or ELK
You’ve developed functional test plans, and written and executed functional test cases
You think outside-of-the-box and are able to implement contrarian ideas to standard practices entrenched in a traditional industry
You have a track record for building relationships with product vendors and technology partners.
You are organized and enjoy detail oriented work assignments
You are flexible and adaptable and able to work in a complex and evolving technology lab environment
Great-to-haves

Additional qualities and abilities that would be considered an asset:
Registered member of APEGA
Familiarity with the security industry and associated UL standards.
Experience in software development
Experience in an industry stands committee or working group
Knowledge of IoT ecosystems and mobile application architectures
Working knowledge of penetration testing, vulnerability assessments, and security-by-design principles
