Bonsai’s mission is to help people find and buy the products they want, as soon as they realize they want them. We began in 2016 as a streetwear style and news app. Now we’re leading the market shift to content-driven commerce. We are helping publishers launch e-commerce as a new line of business. While digital media has embraced many different revenue models over the years, and several versions just within e-commerce (everything from affiliates to D2C brand development), very few have amounted to a core revenue line. We already do this for over 200M+ monthly unique visitors on some of North America’s leading publishers, including BuzzFeed and Complex, but the opportunity is still largely untapped.

Our technology allows users to transact natively while browsing content. We make the journey from seeing a product to buying it possible in two taps. Our vision is to make this possible everywhere you discover products. For publishers, we provide a powerful revenue alternative to ads that also improves the user experience. For merchants, Bonsai allows them to capture customers while they browse content, right when purchasing intent is being formed.

We’re looking for a Publisher Partnerships Lead to join our business development team, working closely with and supporting the CEO mainly on publisher acquisition and collaborating with other business development representatives on merchant acquisition.

In this role, you will act as a consultant to major media companies around the world, helping them understand the e-commerce opportunity and how they can monetize their audiences with e-commerce. Unlike many software-as-a-service companies (SaaS), Bonsai’s relationship with publishers can range from a technology licensing agreement to a fully managed line of business run by Bonsai with dozens of dedicated staff.

The role (In a nutshell):
Research and Prospecting

Be a subject matter expert in fashion, beauty, lifestyle and digital media industries
Develop criteria for identifying new partners using internal business intelligence parameters
Ideally, be a consumer of media and brands in the space we are working on

Outreach

Qualify prospective partners based on internal business intelligence parameters
Generate contact leads for outreach to qualified partners using lead generation tools
Develop outreach campaigns while A/B testing email variants
Develop proposals, sales decks and term sheets for prospective partners
Optimize drip campaign performance based on real-time data

Sales Operations

Determine approximate target margins to sign partners based on costs to operationalize deals
Work collaboratively with the merchant acquisition team to identify merchants of interest that will support publisher closes
Oversee scheduling and follow-ups for all client meetings
Work closely to assist the CEO in large deal closes

Your background:
Experienced as a business development representative in the publisher tool, lifestyle brand or publishing space.
SaaS sales experience.
Knowledge of fashion, beauty, lifestyle and digital media industries.
Experience with a variety of deal structures and transaction types.
