Job Summary

Lorex is looking to build the next generation of innovative solutions for our customers focused on the Smart Home. As a Smart Home Product Manager, you will develop a deep understanding of customers’ needs, and relevant technologies, and use this knowledge to define, execute, and deliver a product roadmap that supports the goals of the company. The right person for this role is customer-obsessed, has solid experience delivering successful projects, is able to manage deadlines and risks across a global team, and communicate effectively with stakeholders. Lorex has a fast-paced environment and requires someone who is flexible, energetic, analytical and who thrives on taking action, is detail-oriented and is comfortable managing communications across several teams and levels. This role is inherently cross-functional: You will work closely with product, design, user research, development, retail and ecommerce sales teams and other internal and executive teams to constantly innovate. You'll deliver results when faced with ambiguous situations and roadblocks.


  • Leads the development of the Smart Home product strategy and vision supported by internal and external analysis
  • Comes up with next-gen ideas on how consumers can and will interact with our devices in their homes and businesses
  • Defines creative, high quality, product roadmaps based on company strategy and vision
  • Leads end-to-end product development process, from product requirement documents to product launches
  • Develops detailed, crisp business requirements and user stories that can be used to create product specifications and architecture for each product and application
  • Manages prioritization and trade-offs among customer experience, performance and operational support load
  • Creates buy-in for the product vision both internally and with key external partners and customers
  • Responsible for managing and securing overseas manufacturing relationships
  • Engages app teams to plan new features and ensure on-time delivery of updates to support upcoming product launches
  • Engages the various sales teams regularly to uncover new opportunities and areas for improvement
  • Communicates product plans, benefits, and results to all audiences — internal teams, entire company, external developers, etc
  • Provides training to sales and support teams to equip them with the necessary knowledge to sell and support solutions
  • Generates costing, pricing and margin analysis for new product launches to ensure company goals are met
  • Proactively identifies and resolves development issues that may limit on-time delivery
  • Works closely with fellow product managers, suppliers and the marketing team to deliver products to market
  • Takes part in key customer meetings to gain direct insight into customer feedback, opinions and suggestions
  • Gains a deep understanding of customer’s needs and feedback through analyzing customer reviews, tech support reporting, usability analysis and discussions with various partners
  • Monitors and measures success metrics after launch including sales performance, return numbers and reviews. Incorporate feedback into product development process
  • Takes responsibility for full product lifecycle management
  • Ensures inventory sell-down of end-of-life product is coordinated with the launch of replacement products
  • Collaborate with Sales, Marketing, QA, Engineering and Tech support to meet the overall goals of the company

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs)

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Business or other relevant area
  • Track record in balancing out product priorities against budget and timelines
  • Strong verbal and written communication and presentation skills with demonstrated experience dealing with multiple varying opinions and engaging and influencing senior executives
  • Proven track record of teamwork and willingness to roll up one’s sleeves to get the job done in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
  • Experience working closely with technical and non-technical team members
  • Experience with Product development methodologies including Stage-Gate process and Agile will be considered an asset
  • Excellent working knowledge of MS Office / Office 365
  • Knowledge of Jira, SAP, product information systems (PIM) will be considered an advantage

Background Experiences

  • Proven working experience as a Product Manager with at least 5 years experience
  • Proven work experience in creating creative roadmaps, and leading end-to-end product development
  • Very familiar with the fundamentals of product life cycle management
  • Strong background in data and analytics to enhance decision making and deliver customer insights
  • Proven knowledge of various wireless technology (e,g. Wi-Fi, BLE, Zigbee), networking standards as well as voice assistance platforms (e.g. Alexa, Google Assistant, Siri etc.)
  • Experience in retail / ecommerce in the Consumer Electronic industry an asset
  • Experience in the IoT (Internet of Things) / Smart Home industry considered an asset, especially experience with security products
  • Familiarity with mobile, telecom, networking, wireless, wire-free/battery, home automation, voice assistant and privacy technology trends
