Level III Linux Systems Administrator

Role Responsibility

*
2nd and 3rd level support of systems both hardware and cloud based

*
Incident handling, problem handling: analysis and resolution, problem definition,analysis and resolution

*
Systems and server environment monitoring for performance and security

*
Advise in areas such as server environment capacity management, contingency planning, continuity management, disaster recovery management, automating repetitive tasks

*
Scripting & configurations in context of systems & infrastructure

*
Participate in defining and documenting configuration of systems & infrastructure

*
Participate in defining and documenting operational procedures

*
Participate in architectural design/reviews

*
Draft technical content for knowledge base for use by support teams

*
Evaluation and implementation of security standards

*
Security administration and monitoring in adherence to standard security practices

*
Participation in coordination and project meetings

*
Participate and advise in the preventative maintenance and updating of server environments

*
Participate and advise in supporting site deployments

*
Design complex multi-server website environments

*
Synthesize complex and diverse information, generate creative solutions

The Ideal Candidate

Independent problem-solver, self-directed

Good communication skills in English

Expert knowledge of the Linux operating system

*
Act as the resident subject matter expert for Linux technologies and participate in the team’s technical direction in delivering secure, highly available, scale-able and robust computing infrastructures

*
Direct expert level experience with AWS (EC2, RDS, Route 53, S3, Cloudtrail, Cloudfront, EFS Lifecycle Management, Cloudwatch, Trusted Advisor)

*
Good knowledge of XEN Hypervison

*
Familiarity with the principles and practice of system configuration management; experience using a declarative configuration management system such as Ansible a plus

*
Good knowledge of the Windows Server operating system

*
Solid understanding and experience in installing, configuring, maintaining, securing and trouble-shooting of relational databases such MySql, Postgres and MsSQL

*
Solid understanding and experience in installing, configuring, maintaining, securing and trouble-shooting of Apache

*
Ability to write scripts in some administrative language (e.g., Bash, Perl, Python, PowerShell)

*
Ability to manage design and manage complex systems solutions with a solid understanding of capacity planning

*
Initiates new responsibilities and helps to plan for the future of hosting environments

*
Ability to guide and manage junior system administrators

*
Ability to solve problems quickly and automate processes

*
Establish/recommend policies on system use and services

*
Able to diagnose and resolve problems quickly and possess the ability to easily communicate technical concerns and solutions to all levels of employees with varying degrees of technical knowledge

Expert knowledge of system security threats and vulnerabilities

*
Ability to identify needs and gaps in security policies, processes and controls and make recommendations and work with internal staff and vendors to remedy those items

*
Exposure to security audit and compliance processes and functions

*
Assists with creating and modifying information security policies, procedures, standards and guidelines

*
Be able to work under tight deadlines, handle multiple, detailed tasks simultaneously, prioritize appropriately and delegate to resources available

*
Strong ability to diagnose server environment performance issues

*
Must be able to anticipate problems and issues and exercise independent judgment to make sound, justifiable decisions and take action in solving problems while knowing when to escalate issues

*
Possess a strong understanding of TCP/IP network and server security

  • Familiarity with intrusion detection/prevention systems
