Reporting to the Vice President, Equipment, the Equipment Operations Manager is to effectively manage Maintenance Staff and to ensure that all company equipment resources are maintained and repaired in a safe, timely and cost-effective manner and to provide recommendations regarding the acquisition, disposal, and major repairs of equipment.

We’re searching for a dynamic, self-motivated individual to lead the entire maintenance organization. Bird has a fleet of over 150 pieces of heavy equipment which supports our projects in the mining and heavy civil industry.

Based in Wabush NL, the selected individual will have the following responsibilities:

Champion of Bird HSE programs and initiatives
Manage the daily operations of maintenance department through a supervision and planning staff
Participate in the budgeting process, asset acquisition and disposals
Drive for best organizational Profit and Loss results
Drive for best equipment cost per hour
Responsible for Equipment Division facilities maintenance and operations
Recruitment, performance review of both staff and craft
Champion all business excellence projects
Develop training programs for both staff and craft
Support new business bidding projects
Travel to other BIRD sites will be required
Enforce and promote the Company’s Quality Assurance Program
Demonstrate positive leadership qualities and apply them to the work environment
Other duties as assigned

Preferably a Mechanical or Civil Engineer with 5 years’ experience managing a similar operation
A seasoned heavy equipment Manager with 10 years' experience managing a similar size maintenance operation
Strong leadership and interpersonal skills
Strong analytical skills
ISO, LEAN or SIX SIGMA certifications are an asset
