We're hiring a HAZMAT Team Lead for our client, a large Industrial Chemical Distribution company, to join their team. This is a full time position with a competitive salary and benefits package.

Responsibilities

Directs surveys of the incident and validates preliminary evaluation information to include type of release (spill, explosion or fire), and the hazardous substance involved. Takes or continues action necessary to control the risk, and secure the scene appropriately.
Collects and interprets hazard and response information from Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) information, emergency information centers, databases, and other technical resources.
Confirms the characteristics of the hazardous substance, as well as associated hazards such as toxic fumes. Based up determination of the extent of damage to containers or other storage sites predicts the likely behavior of released material and the potential impact if other unstable materials are involved. Directs appropriate action necessary to mitigate hazards identified. Estimates the size of the endangered area, and implements institutional controls such as evacuation and area closures.
Coordinates/leads advanced mitigation, control, and confinement operations required to control the spill, and stop the release, or otherwise contain the hazardous substance such as cooling, plugging or patching containers, applying diluting sprays or neutralizing agents, and constructing dams, dykes, or channels.
Leads/participates in rescue operations and provides emergency medical treatment within the scope of certification and training.
Cooperates with and assists other emergency response resources. Ensures proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE), and adherence to all safety procedures.
Plans and coordinates decontamination/cleanup operations, and other post-incident activities.
Accounts for, utilizes, maintains, and performs minor repair for all issued equipment.
Responsible for all Transportation and on site emergency response planning and training, including Transcaer, Chlorep and on site emergency response.
Provides guidance and facilitates a collaborative approach to site management on implementation of EHS programs in order to reduce accidents, injuries, and environmental releases.
Become familiar with client's Environmental, Health, Safety & Security (EHS) policies and procedures.
Immediately report all EHS incidents (injuries, near misses, releases).
Provide feedback and suggestions for EHS program improvement.
Develop job safety analysis and safe working plans.
Develop and communicate the client's Environmental, Health Safety & Security (EHS) policies and procedures.
About you

Requirements

Degree or Certificate program in occupational health or safety, industrial hygiene, environmental engineering or other relevant field.
5+ years and experience with proven record driving safety leadership, preferably in Chemical Processing environment with process safety and mechanical integrity programs
HAZMAT training and certifications
Transportation of Dangerous Goods
Working knowledge of WCB, CSA, OSHA (or Provincial equivalent for Canadian positions) and EPA (or Provincial equivalent Canadian Positions) regulations and reporting requirements.
5+ years Transportation Emergency Response experience.
5+ years of Hazmat intervention leadership
Transportation Emergency Response Technician level training.
Must be available for travel, up to 20% of time to sites other than home location.
Professional and/or industry certifications preferred (e.g. OHST, CSP, CIH, or CHMM).
Knowledge of Responsible Care Codes.
Knowledge of Haz-mat leadership intervention
Knowledge of asbestos and lead based paint regulations.
First Aid / CPR Certification
Training in confined space rescue and entry.
Ability to conduct Process Hazard Analysis using HAZOP or equivalent method.
Ability to conduct and/or lead incident investigations to determine root cause.
