Our Audit Department is the 3rd Line of Defense and plays a key role in the internal control system of CWBFG. We are seeking a Manager, Business and Operations Internal Audit to plan, lead and manage the execution of the approved risk-based Audit Plan for all business and operational areas (including our branches and partner companies) to provide vital assurance on the quality of internal control systems to reduce the risk of loss and reputational damage to the Company. Additionally, the manager will contribute to the overall audit plan and strategy and provide input into Corporate Audit processes finding opportunities to simplify.

What you will be responsible for:
Audit Planning and Execution

Lead and manage assigned internal audit engagements, by planning and scoping engagements; designing and executing appropriate procedures; evaluating the effectiveness and efficiency of key controls tested; assigning resources; communicating balanced and insightful observations, and actionable recommendations, and finalizing audit reports.
Develop and maintain a thorough understanding of the business, risks and processes for assigned areas.
Preparation of audit reports to management and senior executives.
Manage and provide guidance to staff assigned to each audit. Perform reviews of work performed by other staff members in accordance with the department’s quality assurance and improvement program, and provide guidance and coaching as necessary.
Make recommendations to management to mitigate risk by implementing preventative actions, policies, procedures, documentation, or capitalizing upon other opportunities where the Bank can improve upon its operations and internal control.
Assist in management, tracking, and reporting of outstanding action plans and perform timely follow up on closure of outstanding audit issues.
Assist in providing advisory services to management and assistance on ad-hoc projects and requests as needed, while maintaining objectivity and independence.
Actively look for opportunities to employ data analytics and other advanced tools and techniques as part of regular audits.
Collaborate and work with other Internal Audit functions, as needed including involvement on Corporate Audit or Regulatory Compliance audit activities, when called upon.

Client Relationship Management
Build and maintain effective working relationships with auditee management.
Attend meetings with key Internal Audit partners as part of audit planning, kick off and closures.
Maintain effective communication with partners including appropriate handling of conflicts and issue resolution.
Coordinate receipt of client feedback surveys and compile results on an engagement by engagement basis to support client satisfaction assessments.

Essential Education and Professional Experience:
Undergraduate degree, preferably in an accounting, business, finance or a related field.
Chartered Professional Accountant designation (i.e., CA, CPA) or equivalent, is preferred.
A professional audit certification such as CIA, CISA, or CFSA, is preferred.
Minimum 6-7 years of progressive experience in Internal Audit or Risk Management with financial institutions (preferably at a bank).
Broad experience of banking operations is preferred including:
In-depth experience within or auditing bank operations.
Experience, knowledge and training in a progressive audit department operations.
Previous experience with Retail Banking Operations or Commercial Banking Operations is preferred.
Good understanding of credit risk management practices, industry trends and lending processes and controls (end-to-end lending cycle).
Demonstrated experience managing internal audits and coaching and mentoring associated team members.
Good knowledge of Canadian banking regulations (e.g. OSFI, FINTRAC, CDIC etc.).
Strong knowledge of the Standards of the IIA, as well as internal audit processes and methodologies.
Proficient in using Microsoft Office Suite with high proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
Working knowledge of data analytics tools (e.g. SQL, Power BI) for reporting and data analysis.

Essential Personal Competencies:
Solid communication and influencing skills, particularly in report writing and verbal presentations.
Strong judgment and creativity; strong problem-solving and analytical skills; ability to effectively process a large volume of information and/or uncertainty, and draw meaningful and persuasive conclusions.
Proven ability to manage multiple complex engagements simultaneously, and to prioritize work and efforts of self and team effectively.
Ability to quickly understand the risks associated with business processes and products and ability to formulate practical audit procedures to adequately monitor new risk is essential.
Understanding of technology and its application in optimizing business process, including understanding of technology environments and governance frameworks.
Ability to create a positive and engaging team environment, embrace change, and learn quickly.
Willingness to travel (some travel is required – up to 20-25%).
