As a key role at our resort in Muskoka, the Event Operations/Banquets Manager oversees all onsite details for executing group events and troubleshoots event problems. Reporting to the Food & Beverage Director, this role serves as a liaison and contact person for coordinating details of events with clients, outside vendors, meeting planners and others involved in events.

Key Accountabilities Include:

  • Design, confirm and communicate room layouts and set up requirements for special events
  • Effective and efficient administration and supervision of the event operations associates and functions of event operations
  • Provide leadership and support to the red coat supervisors and leads
  • Maintain service standards and enhance quality of service and offerings, in partnership with the food & beverage director
  • Establish, communicate, train and monitor event operation procedures
  • Hire, train, coach and develop a successful and enthusiastic team of front of house associates engaging in performance management and positive counseling as needed
  • Manage scheduling in accordance with employment policies and budget targets
  • Ensure that all time management and payroll processes are carried out in an accurate and timely manner
  • Assist in development of wine ambassador program through developing relationships with key suppliers, in alignment with business plan
  • Assist in development and implementation of department orientation and training
  • Assist in the development of the event operations operating budget and administer on an ongoing basis by monitoring and tracking expenses
  • Assist in the planning, execution and follow up on special events, group functions, and weddings
  • Serve as an individual contributor and department role model by performing technical or functional job duties
  • Work with red coat supervisors to ensure that hourly associates clearly understand their job roles, responsibilities, and performance expectations
  • Address guest concerns, requests, or issues
  • Complete scheduled inventories, stock and requisition necessary supplies
  • Collaborate with red coat supervisors and leads to develop and carry-out ideas and procedures
  • Ensure that department goals are communicated, understood, and met by hourly associates
  • Coordinate tasks and work with other departments to ensure that the department runs efficiently
  • Prepare and conduct performance reviews of associates
  • Conduct regular walk-through to ensure that all function area and back-of-house areas are clean and meet required standards
  • Responsible for event operation compliance with the quality audit components and creates action plans for the department for event satisfaction improvement
  • Administrative duties including weekly schedule and payroll reports, event order maintenance and organization, and banquet function-billing procedures
  • Coach and develop associates through career development and advancement opportunities
  • Compliance with all safety regulations of assigned tasks, and ensure a clean and safe working environment with active participation in the health and safety program
  • Adhere to all environmental policies and programs as required
  • Other duties as assigned

Key Skill Requirements:

  • Diploma or Degree in Tourism or Hospitality
  • 2-3 years of Food & Beverage leadership experience in a resort or hospitality setting
  • Proven fluency in MS Office tools (Word, Excel, and Outlook)
  • Comprehensive knowledge of fine food wines and service
  • Proven track record in developing and maintaining service standards
  • Previous experience administering an operating budget and managing operating/labour costs

Working Conditions

  • Must be able to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends and holidays
  • Required to move, lift, carry, pull and place objects weighing less than or equal to 50 pounds without assistance
  • Stand, sit or walk for an extended period of time or for an entire shift
