The Department of Cardiac Science in the Cumming School of Medicine invites applications for a Research Administrator. This Full-time Fixed Term position is for approximately 8 months (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.

The Research Administrator reports to the Research Manager of the Cardiovascular Opportunities Network Epidemiology and Clinical Trials (CON-ECT) Centre.

This position must have broad experience in data collection systems, have an in-depth knowledge of clinical research and be aware of Good Clinical Practice (GCP) guidelines. The Research Administrator must be highly organized and able to complete the various duties with minimal or no direction based on fluctuating position requirements. Must have excellent communication skills, analyze and exercise judgement within established guidelines, be a strong team player and develop creative solutions to the various challenges posed. The Research Administrator must be able to deal effectively with complex issues and concerns.

Position Description

Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):

Responsible for the coordination and administration of research programs or projects
Responsible for regulatory completion of clinical trials including but not limited to:
research ethics board submissions, modifications, renewals, reporting and closures, budget negotiations, sponsor contract submission and modifications, AHS contract completion, study archiving, accounts receivable and payable on all studies
assist with the conduct of multi-centre and local clinical trials, as per discretion of the research manager
Responsible for working in the data collection systems
Responsible for all aspects of clinical trial management, as directed by office standard operating procedures (SOPs)
Will assist other technical staff / students with data collection, labelling, entry and analysis
Learning various types of medical equipment and software packages
Will work on all aspects of clinical trial management
Will provide research support, produce reports, and administer research policies and procedures
Will assist with site communication in multisite trials through various types of media development
Will be responsible for tracking adjudication events and assisting with the set up and conduct of committee meetings
Work involves learning various types of medical equipment and software packages
Responsibilities include the training and supervision of students working in CON-ECT
Responsible for coordinating study subjects, research staff and volunteers to conduct study related activities, including the delegation of tasks and duties and scheduling
Develop project timelines, monitor and control of project deadlines and outcomes, and closeout of projects
Provide research support, produce reports, and administer research policies and procedures
Conduct statistical analyses to determine cost and effectiveness of research activities and processes, recommending and implementing improvements as appropriate

Qualifications / Requirements:
Must have a degree in Health Sciences
Minimum 3 years of related experience and completion of post-secondary education in Bachelor of Health Sciences or related discipline
Experience with the use of relational databases and electronic data capture collection systems is required
A combination of education and experience will be considered
An understanding of Case Report Forms (CRFs) is essential
Self-motivation, creativity and organization are essential
Must be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office
Experience in clinical trials is an asset
An understanding Open Clinica software, REDCAP and completion of a course in GCP are highly advantageous
Excellent communication skills
Experience with the use of relational databases and electronic data capture collection systems is required
Demonstrated strong communication, team and customer service skills, and an ability to exercise judgment within established guidelines
Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills
A positive attitude and the ability to work independently and as part of a team are critical to success
