Job Description

The Financial Policy & Reporting (“FP&R”) group plays a critical role in the financial reporting of CPP Investments’ consolidated financial statements and CPP Investments’ legal entities, the development and implementation of accounting policy guidelines, and the accounting policy support of investment initiatives and structures.

Reporting to the Manager, FP&R, the Senior Analyst/Associate will assist with the preparation of CPP Investments’ financial statements, involvement in special projects to support CPP Investments’ 2025 strategy and implementation of accounting guidelines.

This position will collaborate with various teams including Structuring, Investment Operations, Treasury, Legal, and Tax to ensure we apply best practices and methodologies in financial reporting.

Role Specific Accountabilities:
Work closely with the Policy group in reviewing and analyzing new investment products, implements required changes to the financial statement disclosure and presentation.
Develop and maintain proper documentation of financial reporting processes and controls including workflows, source of information, frequency and purpose of the processes.
Work closely with other finance and operation groups to review and analyze supporting schedules and seek ways to improve current reporting efficiency and accuracy, as well as related processes and controls to generate financial reporting.
Understand key financial reporting risk areas and champion process optimization initiatives by working with key internal stakeholders
Support projects and initiatives, as required.
Prepare and coordinate quarterly external consolidated financial statement notes in accordance with International Financial Reporting Standards (“IFRS”), and Audit Committee presentation materials, as needed.
Assist with the preparation of legal entity financial statements and supporting notes and schedules in accordance with IFRS on an annual basis; and preparation of quarterly trial balance packages for tax/regulatory filing purposes.
Review of structuring documents including entity creation memos, legal documents and Investment Management Plans to obtain full understanding of an entity’s structure.

Qualifications

Undergraduate degree in commerce, accounting or other relevant discipline
Professional accounting designation (CPA or equivalent)
Minimum 5-8 years’ experience in financial reporting or auditing; minimum 2-3 years’ experience in investment management, pension fund or financial services industry
Excellent understanding of IFRS and the ability to quickly grasp internal controls over financial reporting
Familiarity with corporate, financial and regulatory filing requirements in various jurisdictions
Solid demonstrated communication and interpersonal skills
Excellent technical and analytical skills with high accuracy and attention to detail
Demonstrated ability to succeed in a high performing culture; open to, and comfortable with constantly evolving and changing priorities and new challenges
Good professional judgement, professionalism and integrity
Demonstrated strong time management and prioritization skills, extremely well organized
Self-motivated, proactively taking ownership and responsibility
