Position Summary
The Mechanic evaluates, diagnoses and performs maintenance and repairs on propane, gasoline and diesel operated equipment for all City operations. This position is responsible for maintaining daily work order forms, time keeping functions, work independently and report daily repair work.

Key Duties & Responsibilities;

Evaluate, diagnose and perform maintenance and repairs on various types of equipment and apparatus including propane, gasoline and diesel operated equipment;

Conduct regular inspections on vehicles and equipment;

Review, compile, and order appropriate parts and supplies for repair work;

Responsible for preparing and maintaining work related records;

Responsible for ensuring a safe, clean and professional work environment;

Ensure all work is performed in accordance with health and safety practices and City and department policies and procedures;

Maintain good working relationships with Fleet team as well as colleagues from Transit, Public Works and other internal departments as well as with external contacts and suppliers;

Remain current with industry changes, vehicles, and equipment;

May be required to work out of various locations within the City;

Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications, Competencies
Grade 12 diploma or equivalent education;

Five (5) years as a licenced mechanic; including experience with a wide variety of diesel and gasoline operated equipment and vehicles is required;

Must possess and maintain a valid Ontario 310T Truck and Coach Technician licence;

Must possess and maintain a valid Ontario Class G driver’s licence;

Air conditioning and welding experience;

Knowledge of safe work practices;

Experience with computerized maintenance program software;

A valid 310S Automotive Service Technician licence is an asset;

Ability to perform the essential duties of the job;

Demonstrated ability to interpret electrical diagrams, schematics and technical manuals;

Demonstrated concentration, visual attention and manual dexterity;

Ability to work independently and in a team environment;

Must possess effective communication skills both verbal and written;

Diagnostic skills required for a variety of different equipment including preventative maintenance programs beyond work requests and use of safe working practices at all times;

Ability to work rotating shifts which may include days, evenings, weekends and holidays;

Must obtain and maintain a satisfactory criminal record check at candidates’ expense.
