Job Summary

CSE is currently looking for web developers to work in a dynamic and innovative operational environment. We are looking for people eager to make a significant impact on Canada’s security posture (including IT Security and Foreign signals intelligence).

The positions require developers to build, test, and deliver a variety of operational applications (including, but not limited to: create and configure websites with content management frameworks such as Drupal, design and develop modern and responsive web applications using PHP, Angular and/or React, perform scripting using languages such as HTML, Javascript, XML and Python). The candidate will be involved with the deployment of web applications and integration with APIs and RESTful / web services as part of an overall microservices framework.

Successful candidates will be expected to demonstrate perseverance, creativity, collaboration, and flexibility to work in various fields. They will be exposed to diverse aspects of software engineering.

Position Type

Term and indeterminate can be staffed from this competition. Term and indeterminate positions have a one (1) year probation period.

Salary Range

Individuals are typically hired into entry level positions though exceptions can be made based on the level of experience and competency demonstrated during the selection process.

UNI-07 level: $78,001.00 - $91,764.00 per year
UNI-08 level: $83,250.00 - $97,942.00 per year
UNI-09 level: $89,304.00 - $105,060.00 per year

These positions are currently eligible for a market allowance ranging from $8,366 to $12,103

The salary and market allowance are under review.

Position Requirements


Undergraduate degree or college diploma from a recognized institution in Computer Science, Computer Engineering including Mathematics.
Final year students who are currently completing their degree/diploma are eligible to apply.

Experience with modern user interfaces and web development.
Experience with object-oriented design and coding skills
Experience in design and implementation of modern full stack web applications
Experience dealing well with ambiguous/undefined problems; ability to think abstractly
Experience with distributed (multi-tiered) systems
Experience with relational databases such as MySQL or Document / Graph databases such as MongoDB
Experience with web servers such as Apache or Nginx
Fluent in HTML, CSS and JavaScript

Highly proficient in design and implementation of modern web applications
Experience in content management systems (CMS) such as Drupal, Jive, and Mediawiki.
Experience in scripting languages such as Python, Perl, and Javascript
Experience with search engine implementation and optimization
Ability to effectively articulate technical challenges and solutions
Experience in integrating open source technologies in a production environment
Knowledge of RESTful service development
Experience with HTML5, CSS3, Responsive Design, WET4 and Frameworks such as Bootstrap
Experience in continuous delivery and in build and deployment processes.
Experience in automated testing using tools such as Selenium
Understanding of user experience (UX) best practices
Experience with JavaScript frameworks such as Angular, React
Other relevant technologies include: Linux platforms, SOLR, Manifold, node.js, and Nginx
Knowledge of Cloud technologies
Knowledge of AI technologies (such as Chatbot, prescriptive products, usage analysis).

Security Requirements

Candidates must have no criminal record. The screening process involves a security interview, a polygraph test, a psychological assessment, and a background investigation covering a minimum of your last 10 years history, including credit and financial verifications.
