The Alberta Market Analyst is accountable for all aspects of analytical support for the Alberta power market. This position provides key analytical support for the traders in the form of standardized reporting, ad hoc analysis and customer deal pricing. In addition, the analyst provides a cross-functional support function to other business units with the objective of meeting financial and growth objectives.

Accountable for developing, implementing and maintaining, the analyst data pack.
Accountable for creating, refining and maintaining Alberta fundamental price forecasts out through 3 years.
Accountable to provide analytical support for trading and origination.
Accountable to develop, review and refine core fundamental strategies that will drive trading/hedging activities through prompt year. This will be done in conjunction with the Traders.
Accountable to provide cross-functional support as required.

University degree
Understanding of financial risk measures
Energy derivative understanding
Understanding of TransAlta Financial Policies
Understanding of TransAlta Corporate Governance & Legal Compliance Policies
Understanding of Energy Market Fundamentals, Power Asset Modeling, and Mathematical Modeling techniques
Ability to make decision quickly and mitigate risks while ensuring compliance with prescribed parameters
Demonstrated knowledge of energy markets, with expert knowledge of the Alberta power market
Ability to identify areas of growth and develop and implement plans/actions to achieve that growth
Demonstrated knowledge of trading compliance requirements and ability to enforce these requirements within the team
Ability to work collaboratively across the trading team to meet growth targets, operationalize new commercial initiatives and find efficiencies across the teams while working within risk parameters
Demonstrated knowledge of VBA, SQL, Python and ability to create robust analytical models.
