Our Northwest Region (Western Canada and the US Northwest) is seeking a Senior Waste Management Specialist ready to join one of our fastest- growing business lines. The candidate would join our North American waste management group of 120 professionals. You will be expected to contact new clients and prospects to grow the business of the waste management practice in the Northwest Region. This role is created to specifically focus on expanding traditional waste management work as well as alternative waste management projects such as organics management through composting and anaerobic digestion. You will also work closely with GHD's waste management planning group.
GHD has a strong mentorship program and this candidate will be working directly with a Principal/Vice-President of the waste management group. This position is a phenomenal opportunity to be part of an established Solid Waste practice with an exciting future ahead. We are seeking a technically strong Senior Solid Waste Management Specialist who wants play an active role in growing our waste management team to leverage GHD's significant experience in new and innovative technologies in waste management.
Responsibilities: Reporting to a Principal/Vice President, you will complete tasks including the following:
Establishing long-lasting client relationships with municipal and private clients and prospects
Working with the Regional Business Development Manager to build the business in the Northwest to
Lead proposals for new projects
Lead waste management projects on time and budget for municipal and private clients requiring permitting, operations support, detailed design, construction management and inspection, and environmental studies
Lead GHD's waste management projects including planning and design of composting facilities, and anaerobic digestion facilities, landfills, transfer stations, composting facilities, material recovery facilities, transfer stations, and renewable natural gas projects. Further extend to Northwest Region GHD's core strength in alternative waste technologies, especially in organics management
Work with GHD's waste management planning team to undertake the technical component of master plans
Own the preparation of technical reports and complete peer reviews of designs completed by others in the Waste Management group
Effectively communicate and connect with existing and prospective clients
Complete regulatory conformance reviews
Project management of studies and designs to support permitting applications
Undertake liaison activities with regulators
Provide mentorship and leadership to intermediate and junior technical staff across our offices in Northwest Region
Provide internal leadership in the growth and direction of the North American Waste Management Team
Engineer with a P.Eng. in AB and BC (preferably both), or be eligible, scientist or planner
15+ years of experience in the solid waste industry
Minimum of 10 years' experience in a consulting role
10 years' experience in a business development role
Valid class 5 drivers' license with driving record in good standing
Willingness and ability for overnight travel and to conduct field work
Proficiency in MS Office, Word, Excel, Project, PowerPoint
Excellent verbal and written communications skills and ability to work in a highly-skilled and diversified project team
Experience in organic waste processing and waste technologies is considered an asset
