Reporting to the Manager, Metals Operations, the Coordinator, Metals Operations Competency is accountable for the ongoing maintenance and development of the area operating procedures, training standards and progression systems consistent with the site training plans. The position ensures the ongoing development of operator education, capability and competency is demonstrated through ongoing evaluations to ensure the plant is operated in safe, sustainable and efficient manner.
Collaborate with area supervision and management, identify regulatory and other training needs within the department based on an understanding of the site business objectives, operating area requirements and relevant legislation.
Lead in the development, maintenance, and revision of procedures, operating instructions, and training materials.
In consultation with area supervision and management, approve operator orientation and training plans and monitor operator progress through the area progression system.
Develop plans for remedial training or other corrective measures where operator competency does not meet the required standard.
Identify, monitor, and report progress for completion of site regulatory training needs for the area operations personnel.
Monitor operator competence against established environment, health and safety systems and standards and identify opportunities for corrective actions and continuous improvement.
Participate in and identify opportunities for improvement for effective communication within the operating area, supporting a high level of employee engagement and job satisfaction.
Promote an advanced understanding and continuous improvement of specific requirements to determine worker competence through comprehensive training and development of operations employees
Qualifications and Skills
Adult education certificate or related training and experience.
Minimum of 5 years of industrial process plant experience.
Proficient in use of Microsoft programs and relevant software applications.
Effective written and verbal communication.
Strong problem solving skills, public speaking skills and ability to coach and mentor.
