RECE Facilitator – EarlyON Centre

PLASP Child Care Services is an award winning charitable organization operating on a not-for-profit basis, providing high quality licensed programs, for children up to 12 years of age since 1975. PLASP operates in more than 230 schools providing before school, lunch, and after school programs, an EarlyON centre and over 25 early learning and child care centres, providing full day care.

PLASP Child Care Services opened their first EarlyON centre in September 2018. The EarlyON centre is a child and family centre offering free drop in programs for caregivers and children from birth to 6 years of age. These programs allow caregivers and children the opportunity to participate in active, play-based learning opportunities together such as storytelling, sing alongs, creative art experiences and more. Caregivers can also seek and receive advice from Early Childhood professionals while connecting with other families within the community.

PLASP kindergarten and school age programs provide fun, age appropriate activities for children 4 to 12 years of age, both indoors and outdoors. Programs follow the Ministry of Education pedagogy, How Does Learning Happen?

Hours of work for this position will be 17.5 hours per week and the daily shift hours are 9:15 AM – 12:45 PM, Monday to Friday.


The successful candidate will provide a full range of duties, including:
 Create and provide a welcoming and inclusive environment where children and families engage in learning through play and inquiry as is consistent with the How Does Learning Happen? Pedagogy (HDLH?)
 Engage caregivers in conversations that support the positive development of their child and provide and/or refer parents to resources and specialized services that will support them;
 Complete program assessment on a bi-annual basis
 Work with staff to provide programming that is reflective of the culture and unique needs of the children and families attending the program
 Model and demonstrate positive adult-child interactions for parents and caregivers
 Plan adult workshops for caregivers that are relevant to the needs of the families
 Collect and report data on program
 Attends workshops, conferences and seminars which promote both professional and personal growth

 An Early Childhood Education Diploma and must be a Registered Early Childhood Educator
 Minimum of 2 years’ experience delivering programs to children and families
 In-depth knowledge and experience applying play and interest based learning using the How Does Learning Happen?
 Experience working with groups of children between the ages of 0 to 6 years and with adults
 Experience working in multicultural and inclusive environments
 A positive and sensitive attitude towards children and caregivers
 Ability to communicate effectively in non-judgemental ways with children, parents, community partners, school staff and coworkers;
 A flexible and willing attitude towards lifelong learning and professional development
 Excellent relationship building skills and demonstrated ability to network
 Strong leadership skills
 Strong research and excellent computer skills
 Holds a valid Standard First Aid with Level C CPR certificate
 Has a valid original Vulnerable Sector Criminal Reference Check, completed within the last six months
 Up-to-date immunization records
 Ability to speak another language is an asset
