The Associate Registrar and Director, Student Recruitment and Admissions is a key member of the Office of the Registrar’s senior management team and has oversight of the student recruitment and admissions office including the communications and marketing team, the overall co-ordination of student recruitment (domestic and international), admissions assessment and recruitment events at the University of Toronto at Mississauga (UTM). In consultation with the Registrar and Director of Enrolment Management, the Associate Registrar and Director is responsible for establishing policies, practices and procedures for student recruitment and admissions.
As a key member of the tri-campus Strategic Enrolment Management Group, the Associate Registrar and Director, Student Recruitment and Admissions helps to establish enrolment goals and objectives, develops and implements strategies and initiatives to assist UTM achieve its enrolment goals, reviews and revises existing policies and practices to ensure consistency with overall enrolment management objectives, and recommends changes to policies and practices as necessary. The Associate Registrar and Director is responsible for monitoring admissions and enrolment statistics and preparing summary reports as well as conducting research into the effectiveness of enrolment management practices at UTM. The Associate Registrar and Director prepares complex statistical reports, cost and market analyses for discussion at senior levels of the University.
The Associate Registrar and Director, Student Recruitment and Admissions has oversight over all student recruitment and admission activities and strategies, including on admission transfer credit, for UTM prospective students, their parents and other key influencers. The Associate Registrar and Director is a key member of the First Entry Group which oversees the operation from a University of Toronto wide perspective and is expected to play an important role in tri-campus recruitment activities for the University. The Associate Registrar and Director is responsible for the continued development of UTM admissions policies and procedures.
University degree or acceptable combination of education and experience in the area of Student Recruitment and Admissions.
A minimum of eight (8) years senior administrative experience within a University or College setting, with at least five (5) years of experience in student recruitment and admissions, advising students in admissions, or related areas. A minimum of five (5) years supervisory and management experience. At least three (3) years’ experience in admissions and assessment of university applicants including experience with national and international credentials. Knowledge of University of Toronto programs and admission requirements and of the overall university structure would be an asset. Project management experience. Experience in public speaking and presenting to small and large audiences. Experience managing budgets where independent decision-making, initiative and attention to detail is required.
Team-building, conflict management and supervisory skills. Strong organizational, planning, time management skills. Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively and develop good working relationships with co-workers, senior university administrators, and external clients. Well-developed computer skills with the ability to use student information systems (knowledge of University of Toronto ACORN/ROSI student Information system would be an asset), Customer Relationship Management systems (familiarity with SLATE would be an asset). Proficiency in Microsoft Office with advanced knowledge of Excel, Word and Powerpoint.
Current advanced knowledge of best practices in domestic and international post-secondary student recruitment and admission. Good knowledge of university policies and procedures. Highly developed computer skills with the ability to learn new systems, to analyze complex technical tasks and implement solutions. Ability to think logically and consistently, plan, coordinate, a commitment to improving the work environment, to negotiate and organize a heavy workload and to set and meet priorities. Ability to recognize and maintain the confidentiality of sensitive personal and operational information. Maintains a high degree of professionalism, tact, patience, discretion and good judgment.
Monday to Friday, 8:30 am to 4:45 pm with some flex time during recruitment season and particularly busy periods and altered hours in the summer. Work at this level may require working beyond the University’s work week of 36.25 hours on a regular basis.
Some evening hours are required especially during peak periods. Some weekend hours are required for special events.
