The Biomedical Technology Services department provides technical expertise to clinical areas for the support and maintenance of medical devices and systems. Services such as electrical inspection, device evaluation and user support are also mandated. Specialties exist for highly sophisticated systems. Generic coverage is provided for basic instrumentation.
Primarily responsible for service at multiple hospital sites. Performs standard biomedical technologist duties such as inspection, repair, calibration, maintenance, and installation of patient-related devices and systems. Required to perform clinical site investigation and troubleshooting. Performs user training and assistance when required. Must be able to interact and deal with health care professionals at all levels. May take part in design, modification, construction, and evaluation of various devices as required. Performs other duties as assigned by manager. Must possess a valid driver’s license and must be insured to drive a car. Is expected to travel to regional locations (e.g. Fergus, Palmerston, Mount Forest, Grimsby, etc) including the hospitals of Hamilton Health Sciences (General, Juravinski, McMaster, and St. Peter’s). The position is based at one of the 3 main acute care sites (HGH, JH, or MUMC). May be asked to participate in on-call and/or fill in for vacation/absences at various sites. Main objectives are to provide services for contract clients, small hospitals, and to facilitate Tier 1 preventive maintenance compliance at the HHS sites where possible. This is accomplished by performing preventive maintenance on Tier 1 devices or by providing general services thus allowing specialist’s time to carry out Tier 1 preventive maintenance.
Schedule Work Hours
7.5 Hours per day, 5 days per week
1. Graduate of an accredited college program in Electronics and/or Biomedical Technology
2. Minimum 3 years experience in the field of Biomedical Technology
3. Strong knowledge of electronics, medical devices/systems, anatomy and physiology
4. Demonstrated ability to interact and deal with healthcare professionals at all levels
