Reporting to the Director, Payroll, Compensation & Benefits is responsible for the administration of compensation and benefits plans including the retirement savings plans for the organization and provide insight on strategy. Ensures compensation and benefits/pension programs are aligned with the company’s compensation philosophy and objectives.

The Senior Manager, Compensation and Benefits provides leadership to a team of compensation and benefits professionals who in turn provide administration support on compensation, benefits, pension, STD and LTD management and support to the HR dept and the organization.

The Senior Manager has oversight on the compensation process (including annual salary review), benefit administration including renewals, pension administration, leads the job evaluation process which includes appeal for disputes, maintains the inventory of job descriptions, maintains position control, and assists with organization design. The team manages the company retirement savings plans including the pension and RRSP plans, liaises with HRBP regarding benefit clarification or problems, and STD/LTD follow ups and reporting.


Own the compensation and benefits function, including the pension plan administration and onboards, leads, coaches and mentors the compensation and benefits team of XX
Owns and administers any compensation, benefits and pension related policies and procedures
Optimize existing practices, processes, tools, systems and programs, and create new ones based on industry’s research and best practices.
Consistently benchmark Fairstone offerings to other employers
Ensure consistency of practices and compliance with strategy, policies, standards and regulatory requirements, and implement key performance indicators and follow-ups.
Along with the CHRO, the senior manager oversees the budgeting process for any compensation related matters (annual salary, benefits….)
Collaborate with the HRBPs to develop and implement compensation/benefits related strategies.
Provide strategic support based on your expertise and keep a vigilant watch on the internal and external environment.
Advise, support and guide HR and company executives in best practices of compensation/benefits.
Constantly monitors trends and developments in compensation and benefits in order to attract and retain staff
Responsible for communication and training, in partnership with internal communications and Learning and development, regarding Fairstone’s compensation and benefits (including pension) changes
Keep current and Advise HR team on current and upcoming changes to employment legislation regarding compensation and benefits
Is accountable for the compensation and benefits data integrity in the HRIS
Works with the HR digitization team to ensure data integrity, including security of personal data and confidential information
Leads requests for data gathering requirements as needed by HR and other areas of business (example; external audits, budgeting….) required analysis of such data
Is responsible to maintain any key performance indicators and trend reports on compensation and benefits (including pension) related matters
Ensure consistency of practices and compliance with strategy, policies, standards and regulatory requirements, and implement key performance indicators and follow-ups.
Works closely with the Payroll Department and HRBPs to develop communications related to the deployment and internal marketing of compensation initiatives.
Responsible for any related compensation and benefits related components of FS EVP (Employer Value Proposition)


Ensures job evaluation process is managed equitably and salary recommendations are based on all required determining factors.
Determines new jobs and grades assigned by the Compensation Specialist, ensuring alignment with market studies and company compensation philosophy. Review and approval of salaries and rates as presented to recruitment for posting purposes
Maintains the inventory of job descriptions and assists with organization design
Leads and administers the annual, companywide annual salary review process, including, salary increases, bonus (including scorecard) and salary ranges review
Owns and administers the pay equity process as required by legislation
Participates in compensation surveys


Make recommendations to the benefits program; liaise with external consultants as needed
Leads the re -enrollment activities for benefits
Be the HR point of escalation for any benefits administration issues
Supports management's decision making by analyzing benefit options and predicting future costs
Identifies benefit options by studying programs; obtaining advice from consultants
Establish and maintain good working relationships with benefits providers to expedite the delivery of benefits
Reconciles benefits accounts by approving billing statements
Administers the pension and retirement savings plan
Is a member of the pension committee


Is responsible for the administration of STD and LTD programs
Ensures proper follows ups regarding employees on leave with service provider, HR and manager
Provide STD and LTD reporting


Responsible for the management of the recognition program including the service award program
Responsible for the administration of the EAP program
Oversight on wellness programs including but not limited to prevention, committee participation, , awareness campaigns, ergonomics, fitness, etc.
Determine the budgetary needs required to support compensation and benefits/pension initiatives.
Work closely with the Payroll, HR digitization and HRBPs to develop communications related to the deployment of compensation and benefits/pension initiatives.
Provides compensation and benefit education to HRBPs, enabling them to respond to employee questions and problems by interpreting benefit policies and procedures
Manage and develop trustworthy relationships with various internal and external partners.
Achieves financial objectives by proper administration of the compensation and benefits/pension administration. Participates in developing operational budgets, analyzing variances and initiating corrective actions where required
Supports HRBP in Headcount management


Bachelors’ degree in a related field, or equivalent experience
Minimum 7 years experience in Compensation and Benefits/pension administration
Experience in managing a result driven team
Proven success in optimizing compensation strategies and benefits platforms
Ability to analyze data and provide recommendations
Ability to excel in fast past changing environment
Ability to manage multiple projects at once
Knowledge of Workday system and specifically, Compensation, Advanced Compensation and Benefits modules
Fluently bilingual (French and English), written and spoken
Creative, proactive, accountable, resourceful, flexible, curious, and positive
Demonstrated ability to develop and deploy engaging, flexible and innovative compensation and benefits/ health and wellness offerings and solutions
Ability to learn quickly, influence, work in a changing environment, analyze and solve problems
Excellent interpersonal, teamwork and communication skills, both oral and written
Strong knowledge of the Office Suite and specifically Excel
Capability to liaise with 3rd party vendors
