We are currently seeking an experienced Litigation Legal Assistant to join our Calgary team. This is an exciting opportunity for an individual who enjoys a fast-paced and dynamic role. This position will support a busy desk, and offers a broad range of responsibilities and challenges that will utilize your strong litigation and practice management skills.
The successful candidate will demonstrate initiative, strong communication and organization skills, with a desire to work in and promote a client first focused culture.
Draft and prepare Court document related to pleadings, motion materials, and affidavits of records
Practice administration: including managing email and calendar accounts, electronic/hard copy filing, processing client accounts, recording meeting minutes, and coordinating meetings, appointments, travel arrangements, etc.
Liaise with clients to obtain information related to builder’s liens, for example
Perform title searches and obtain instruments registered on title
Locate properties and register documents on title
Prepare default Judgment materials and related enforcement proceedings, including drafting writs of execution and garnishment orders, costs outlines, pre-trial and trial materials
Other duties as are assigned
Required Skills and Knowledge:
Community College Certificate or Diploma, or equivalent combination of experience
A minimum of three (3) years’ experience as a Litigation Legal Assistant
A solid understanding of legal terminology and excellent working knowledge of the Rules of Court and the practice directions
Experience with software applications such as Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel
Experience with litigation support applications such as Eclipse would be considered an asset
Superior verbal and written communication skills and strong ability to adapt communication style, as necessary, when communicating with clients and other team members
Proficient ability to multi-task with flexibility to manage files independently, handle competing deadlines and demands
Strong organizational and time management skills
