This role will utilize your knowledge and expertise to successfully collaborate with the tailings reliability team and provide mechanical support related to piping, pumps, dredges and other unique fluid transfer equipment.
You will use your expertise to:
Provide practical scopes and work packages that meet the Suncor Engineering Standards and practices, enabling a safe effective field execution
Work closely with maintenance, planners and operations on equipment reliability issues and failure trends in order to improve existing asset strategies.
Use risk review approaches, hazard and operability studies, management of change process and other safety checks to maintain and improve area safety and reliability performance indicators
Perform periodic system and equipment walk downs to maintain a current awareness of system condition and performance
Investigate and perform root-cause analysis of failures related to equipment
Ensure equipment design changes align with the engineering management systems and are evaluated for the impact on equipment reliability; lead the engineering design of minor plant and equipment modifications when required
Develop justifications, and technical and economical evaluations of major equipment changes and projects to be executed
Use engineering and technical knowledge to prepare work scopes and coordinate complex repairs such as equipment overhauling, maintenance projects, etc.
Evaluate equipment performance and make continuous improvement recommendations to improve asset capability, safety, and operability through elimination of bad actors and/or improved equipment or component selection and innovation
Mentor junior engineers, co-op students and support them in their development

Must-haves (minimum requirements):
A Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering
Registered or immediately eligible for registration with the association of professional engineers and geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA) as a professional engineer
Five or more years of engineering experience with fixed and rotating equipment
A valid driver’s license and a clean driving record
Alignment with our values
Proficient in reliability management tools such as failure mode effect and analysis (FMEA), reliability centered maintenance (RCM) and root cause failure analysis (RCFA)
Knowledge of relevant American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) and American Petroleum Institute (API) codes
Ability to provide personal and technical mentorship to junior staff members
Strong collaboration skills that enables you to build strong, positive relationships with diverse groups
The ability to anticipate potential problems and check for out-of-the-ordinary conditions, as well as having a strong sense of accountability
A continuous improvement mindset and are able to seek greater knowledge and understanding of the systems, process and hazards in the workplace
A zero-tolerance for shortcuts, and if the procedure is incorrect, you fix it
Where you’ll be working, your work schedule, and other important information:
You will work out of our Base Plant Mine in Fort McMurray, Alberta
Hours of work are a regular 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday
If you reside outside of Fort McMurray, relocation of your primary residence to within 60 km of Fort McMurray is mandatory. Relocation support will be provided; we offer highly competitive housing assistance to eligible individuals
