Cougar Global Investments is an affiliate of Carillon Tower Advisers and is a subsidiary of Raymond James Financial, Inc.

Cougar Global’s Investment team focuses on developing its proprietary top-down investment process. The process combines in-depth macroeconomic research, investment analysis and strict downside risk management using advanced quantitative and statistical models. We also research new multi-asset products and solutions, such as those based on Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) and Smart Beta factors. We aim to generate thought-leadership through regularly published white papers, media appearances, client meetings, and conference presentations. Finally, the team collaborates with marketing and distribution to develop new business.

We are looking for an ambitious Research Analyst to join our expanding team.

Specifically you will:

  • Update and run Cougar Global’s existing risk and asset allocation models for strategic and tactical asset allocation on a regular basis using historical data and forward looking quantitative analysis;
  • Contribute to regular investment team meetings to develop new investment ideas and analyze potential opportunities to add value to portfolios;
  • Engage in thought provoking and cutting-edge research to establish Cougar Global as a thought leader in multi-asset portfolio risk and return management. This includes enhancing existing frameworks and developing new frameworks through investment research, computer programming and analysis to improve current products and develop new solutions for clients;
  • Research and implement (through a programming language/platform of choice) new ideas and frameworks that have the potential to add value to existing clients and attract new clients to Cougar Global. Should be willing to leverage ideas from other industries, including insurance, engineering, physics, and machine learning to produce high quality innovative ideas;
  • Develop software, tools and frameworks that can be utilized by the team internally and externally; and
  • Participate in presentations to clients via webinars, in person engagements and media, as opportunities arise.

To qualify for this opportunity you possess:

  • 1-2 years of work experience in financial services (preferable);
  • Familiarity with concepts around strategic and tactical asset allocation, portfolio construction and optimization, stochastic simulations, macroeconomic research, risk measurement and management preferable, but not pre-requisite;
  • Minimum of a bachelor’s, degree in computer science, engineering, mathematics, financial engineering/computational finance, econometrics, operations research or similar quantitative focus. Master’s or PhD degree a plus;
  • Professional qualifications (CFA, CIMA, etc.) a plus, but not required;
  • Strong technical and programming skills, in a range of languages is essential (VBA, Matlab, C++, SQL, Fortran);
  • Interest in any of these backgrounds: financial engineering, quantitative economics, econometrics, and hard sciences.
  • A positive, relaxed attitude and growth mindset;
  • Prior experience collaborating with other individuals;
  • Attitude to be a self-starter, curious, passionate about learning and a willingness to experiment with different untested ideas; and
  • Effective communication skills to help present complex quantitative research.
