Role Description

You are an ACD. You are a leader in front of the client and a supporter of the designers who report to you. You aspire to create and direct beautiful designs that elicit desired emotions & behaviors from the user and express & evolve our clients’ brand appropriately. You support, lead and execute on the creative vision for the visual design team strategically and tactically. You have a talent for blending your impeccable visual design skill with experience derived from best practices, business insight and wireframes by your UX teammates. That also means you’re super at communication with your design team, the broader SMITH team and with the client. You are driven by a desire to create thoughtful, portfolio-worth, and exceptional high-fidelity work. Other things that describe your unique creative prowess:

What you’ll do

Reports to the Executive Creative Director
Serves as creative lead and manages creative teams on major accounts
Directs all phases of creative work for major accounts from concept through production
Support and influence the creative vision for the UI team tactically and strategically
A large part of your focus is on the humanity of design and the creative process: What does the design mean for the user? What does it mean for the client? What does it mean for my teammates? What does it mean for me?
Provide vision and support for the CXD team within projects
Work with UX team members to develop experience style guides, including sustainable and maintainable visual design languages and systems, interaction patterns, and information design standards
Co-lead the creation and evolution of creative processes
Provide vision and inspiration for the visual design team
Create breakthrough design that is second to none, while honoring commitments and deadlines
Responsible for creating brand-on, strategy-on compelling creative online advertising campaigns for assigned clients
Present design concepts to clients in a professional, captivating and articulate manner
Co-develop and lead department design processes from discovery through to Visual QA
Articulate design decisions based on the goals of the project, the established design strategy, and knowledge of design theory
Participate in many new business development and estimation efforts
Works directly with account team on all projects

What we look for

4+ years leading and managing design teams
Experience with designing for enterprise-level content (e.g. Adobe AEM) and commerce platforms (e.g. SAP Hybris) a huge plus
Provide direct influence and make recommendations for UI resource planning and strategies in the pillar
Expertise with Adobe Creative Cloud (Adobe XD, Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign), Figma or Sketch as well as presentation / delivery software such as InVision and Zeplin
Commitment to constantly improving your skills and staying current with developments and trends in the industry, as well as sharing this knowledge with others
Quality standards and attention to detail, with openness to constructive feedback
Experience creating visual designs for responsive websites and web applications
Demonstrable talent for and commitment to design excellence (formal design education a plus)
Understanding of and experience with user-centered design methodologies and best practices, in particular, the role of design in creating usable and effective web interfaces
Strong information design skills with experience in data visualization (experience in creating information graphics a plus)
Excellent time management skills; ability to work under pressure and hit deadlines while managing multiple projects at once
Someone with a distinct POV on their creative process—both in individual and team settings

Strong interaction design, motion graphic, and cinematic animation skills.
