Job Description:
A major business objective is to change, optimize and improve the manner in which we process and deliver data services to our group business lines – Group Benefits (GB) and Group Retirement Services (GRS). The evolution of the Client Data Solutions Team (CDSS) is a fundamental shift in the manner in which we support this strategic initiative. With that objective in mind, the strategy is to build a service-oriented, center of excellence model, which focuses on client (internal and external) service and recognizing the importance of all stakeholders and its impact to a centralized data management strategy. Key drivers to this strategy are the resources and staffing model we put in place to execute and implement our plan. The focus is on resources that possess a combination of business knowledge and the ability to directly communicate and consult with our clients during new business implementations, client presentations and production support inquiries.

We specialize in:
Inbound bulk data files and automated file feeds from our customers into Sun Life (e.g. demographic data loads, claims history files, GB HRIS feeds, GRS enrolment and contribution feeds, etc.)
Outbound data files from Sun Life to our customers (e.g. payroll deduction files, custom reports, etc.).

The Data Analyst role is responsible for the coordination and execution of member level data transfers to the appropriate Sun Life systems, with emphasis on accuracy and efficiency. This may involve working directly with the Plan Sponsor (customer), Client Relationship Executives in Business Development, Business Projects and Solutions, IT, Implementation Project Managers and Plan Setup Specialists in Operations, as well as other insurers’ technical representatives. This role will focus on working with Group Retirement Services (GRS).

What will you do?

Client project management (75%)

Manage the successful implementation of automated data file feeds
Work with the customers’ technical representatives to coordinate extracts and transfer of plan member data to the appropriate Sun Life Financial systems
Apply project management techniques to ensure client initiatives are on track: create project plans; set up and lead regular touch-points with clients; influence client and internal partners to meet deadlines; document project status, minutes and key decisions made; provide progress updates to Manager
Lead client file testing and quality management processes
Troubleshoot client file issues, with the support of internal business partners

Production support (15%)

Manipulate and reformat data files from the customer’s format to a compatible Sun life format
Schedule jobs to load
Coordinate with Sun Life’s Business Projects and Solutions and IT teams to ensure data is mapped accurately to plan set up
Resolve any errors or discrepancies from the data transfer with the client or previous carrier
Ensure that data transfers align with strict project implementation timelines and provide sign-off to the Implementation Project Manager
Provide timely and accurate data file management support to Implementation Project Managers and Administration Specialists in Operations, especially with one-time loads

Best practices and team development (10%)

Collaborate continuously with team members to identify and implement processes improvements and best practices, in order to enhance efficiency and productivity
Create documentation of business processes and provide training on new or enhanced processes, when required
Apply quality checking functions with the team
Adhere to the team workflow tracking function

What will you need to succeed?

Knowledge of plan setup and member administration
Sound understanding of how to map member data to the plan set up
Understanding of the “big picture” and downstream impact of work on other Operations teams
Knowledge of the GRS business, products and processes
Expert level of skills in Microsoft Excel
Ability to work under pressure and meet quick turnaround times
Strong customer service skills
Collaborative, analytical and solutions-oriented
Self-starter, skilled in time management and prioritizing work

Unique Requirements

Applicants will be required to pass RCMP Enhanced Security Clearance for this role.
Bilingual, with verbal and written communication skills in English and French (asset)
Experience with Internet-based technologies (e.g. FTP, secure web-sites etc.)

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted. It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors. In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance. Certain sales focused roles have sales incentive plans based on individual or group sales results.
