We are looking for an Evening Legal Assistant to join our team. The ideal candidate will have 5 years of previous legal experience, have strong technical, communication and interpersonal skills as well as be driven and able to work with little direction. Our Evening Legal Assistant provides support to lawyers, students and clerks and must be available to work from 3 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.

Primary Activities and Representative Tasks

  • Digital dictation of pleadings, correspondence and other legal documents according to instructions and/or precedents, alternatively prepare legal documents and letters with little or no direction, according to general precedents
  • Revision of documents and correspondence
  • Typing, processing and assembling various court documents for all levels of court
  • Photocopying, scanning and faxing of documents and correspondence
  • Filing of e-mails (as required)
  • Entering dockets (as required)
  • Additional secretarial tasks as requested

Skills/Knowledge/Experience Required

  • Legal Assistant Diploma or Law Clerk Diploma
  • Minimum 5 years’ previous relevant legal experience required
  • Strong technology, keyboard and digital dictation skills
  • Ability to use standard office equipment
  • Competence in proper grammar, spelling and punctuation
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Thorough knowledge of Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, 3E Accounting Program
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Thorough knowledge of the Rules of Civil Procedure, legal practices and terminology
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Highly organized
  • Ability to work independently with strong judgment and analytical skills
  • Ability to work with instructing lawyers while balancing priorities and determining urgency of matters

  • Reports to H.R. Advisor / lawyer assigning work
  • Follows Night Owl List Requests and works independently
