Assistant Professor in Milk Production Biosafety

The Faculté de médecine vétérinaire (FMV) of the Université de Montréal is currently seeking qualified
candidates for an Assistant Professor position in biosafety in the field of milk production. The FMV is located
in Saint-Hyacinthe, the agricultural capital of Quebec with 53 000 inhabitants. The FMV is located 60 km (37
miles) from Montreal, a vibrant city with an international airport and excellent connections to Europe and the
USA. The FMV is also within easy reach of the beautiful, historic Quebec City. The FMV is located off campus,
but maintains strong collaborative ties with other faculties at Université de Montréal and other universities
within the province. A structured mentorship program is available for newly hired professors.
The candidate will be expected to conduct an independent and innovative research program and to obtain
external research grants in the field of milk production and biosecurity. He or she will collaborate with the
holder of the new research chair in milk production biosecurity. This research chair is focused on three
themes: 1) Identification of key biosecurity methods to control the prevalence and to prevent the introduction
or propagation of diseases in dairy herds; 2) Validation of diagnostic strategies to support rigorous biosecurity
programs; 3) Development of effective and economically sustainable surveillance tools and monitoring
programs in milk production biosecurity.
The candidate will have the opportunity to collaborate with different research groups of the Faculté de
médecine vétérinaire having similar research objectives, including the Regroupement FRQ-NT Op+lait, the
Mastitis Network, the Groupe de recherche en santé bovine and the Groupe de recherche en épidémiologie
des zoonoses et santé publique.

Teach students enrolled in the undergraduate DVM program;
Teach and train graduate students (MSc and PhD) and postdoctoral fellows;

To succeed in this role, you must have the following qualifications:
PhD in a discipline where a population-based approach is used and applied to dairy production
(epidemiology, population medicine, animal health economics, data science);
Doctor in Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree or equivalent;
Adequate knowledge of the French written and spoken language or a strong commitment to mastering
the proficiency level required, in accordance with Université de Montréal’s Language Policy. An
