We are currently looking for a Controller, Perioperative Services Financial Planning & Operations. In this role, you will be the key support to the Director of Strategy and Business Operations, Department of Perioperative Services and the Head, Paediatric Specialties Association, in the oversight and financial management of the Perioperative Services Alternate Funding Plan (AFP). This role will work closely with multiple Finance Committees, and liaise with all levels of management throughout the Hospital. In this role you will also provide leadership and guidance to the corporate accounting functions for the Department of Perioperative Services by ensuring operational efficiency, internal controls and policies. A key accountability of this role is to ensure the timely delivery of high quality financial reporting for the Department’s use in business planning and decision-making. The Department of Perioperative Services has ~150 Physicians and Surgeons across six departments: Anaesthesia and Pain Medicine, Critical Care Medicine, Dentistry, Ophthalmology and Vision Sciences, Otolaryngology and Surgery, the latter of which has six divisions: Cardiovascular Surgery, General and Thoracic Surgery, Neurosurgery, Orthopaedic Surgery, Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, and Urology. SickKids is the largest paediatric academic health sciences centre in Canada.

Here’s What You’ll Get To Do:
Provide leadership in the design, development and implementation of the annual operating plan and 5 year operating plan
Identify and implement improvements to the annual operating plan and forecasting process including continually improving the design of the budget models.
Manage the detailed monthly review of multiple budgets including variance analysis of plan to actual, re-estimating annual and extended forecast and FTE analysis. Prepare internal monthly reports and financial statements.
Present strategic and operational considerations based on reviewing trending analysis, statistical analysis and growth.
Provide leadership and direction in the development and implementation of month end and year end processes, including leading and overseeing the annual external audit.
Maintain expert knowledge in Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and industry best practices to support the operational and strategic goals.
Ensure adherence to internal audit controls, policies/procedures.
Review general ledger transactions to ensure accuracy and complete journal entries, account reconciliations, and analysis reports on a monthly basis and in conjunction with the external audit.
Develop Key Performance Indicator reports to support departmental and executive decision making.
Lead in the preparation of large scale reports such as the annual report to the Ministry of Health; responsible for completeness, accuracy and timely submission of all government reporting.
Provide education and support to finance committees and various end users in terms of the operating plan budget preparation, financial management of internally funded departments and any other ad hoc requests
Participate in and/or lead special projects, task groups and selected committees focused on quality, systems and process improvements.

Here’s What You’ll Need:
Completion of professional accounting designation required (CPA).
7+ years of progressive experience in financial accounting and auditing.
Previous experience in healthcare, university is an asset.
University undergraduate degree in Business or equivalent combination of education.
Experience with PeopleSoft Financial, Adaptive Insights and Qlikview an asset.
Strong planning and organizational capabilities.
Sound business judgment to balance a number of complex high value projects.
Ability to identify and build strong, collaborative relationships with varied stakeholders both internally and externally.
Strong oral and written communications skills.
Proven interpersonal skills and commitment to collaborative teamwork.
