The Director of Operations provides advice and consultation to the Centre Director and senior management team at the ERC on the development and implementation of policies, programs, and standards that contribute to the achievement of Ministry and Division business plan goals and objectives associated with the Centre. This position also provides advice and recommendations with respect to emerging issues, key risks, and opportunities related to the management and operation of the ERC.
The Director of Operations is a Senior Manager position accountable for the management and supervision of Centre operations, which includes a leading role in the planning, coordination, and control of daily activities for a 24/7 rotational shift operation. The Director of Operations plays a key role in fostering a professional, positive and respectful work place. This position is responsible for ensuring compliance with policies and procedures, while holding managerial, supervisory and front line operational staff accountable. The Director of Operations plays a key role in leading the effective management of the care, custody and control of the inmate population of the Centre, ensuring the safety of staff, visitors, inmates and the community at large. By providing leadership and direction to managers, supervisors and correctional peace officers, this position ensures inmates are properly treated, monitored and effectively managed.
The ideal candidate will possess:
Administration, operations, offender management and security experience within a Correctional Centre environment.
Strong knowledge of correctional services and the criminal justice system.
Interpersonal and facilitation skills in order to consult, negotiate, and resolve issues with internal and external stakeholders.
The ability to operate effectively within a continually changing correctional environment.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Organizational and project management skills to coordinate diverse range of initiatives and operational activities within rigid time frames.
Strong leadership and planning skills in order to manage and coordinate a large team.
University graduation in a related field supplemented by six years' progressively responsible experience at the supervisory or management level is required. Managerial experience within a Correctional setting would be required. Equivalencies may be considered on a one for one basis.

This is a full-time, permanent position that works Monday to Friday 36.25 hours per week at the ERC. As the ERC is a 24/7 operation, successful candidates may be required to have on-call responsibilities after hours. Selection will be based on an in-person interview, review of qualifications/competencies, reference and attendance check.
The ERC is located at 18415 - 127 Street NW, Edmonton, AB. There is no
public transportation to the Centre, so reliable private transportation is required; free parking is available.
