PURPOSE OF JOB
Insure the general availability of LAN/WAN services to the corporate users as well as all remote users (Stores & remote workers). Perform advanced network troubleshooting for networked devices, Routers, Switches, Servers PC’s, workstations, printers etc. Insure that the group’s SLA is met or exceeded. Administer Advanced Network services such as router and switch management.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Troubleshoot LAN/WAN hardware and software including routers, switches firewalls and NOS problems. Interface with Staples Network support team on complex issues or issues concerning WAN infrastructure problems.
Support remote site network LAN and telecom infrastructure
Maximize LAN/WAN availability including server-based systems. Meet or exceed the groups SLA for network services.
Provide second and third level support as appropriate to IS Help Desk on LAN/WAN, or server related issues.
Plan implementation of medium-large sized projects. Solve technical issues or implement new services on tight timetables. Prototype servers, routers, switches etc.
Develop and test annually disaster recovery services
Insure the safety and integrity of the data network and all LAN/WAN connected devices
Document standards and procedures for the network and server based software
Support 7x24 on-call on rotation
Travel occasionally as required
Other duties and projects as assigned
KNOWLEDGE / SKILL REQUIREMENTS
Hands on experience and strong understanding of firewalls and security, specifically with Cisco ASA/Firepower and Checkpoint Firewalls, as well as knowledge of other industry leading brands and their comparables.
Hands on experience with Cisco WLC, routing and switching, with current Catalyst, ISR/ASR, series switches and routers.
Good understanding of SD-WAN.
Strong understanding of VOIP with experience with both on prem and cloud solutions
Strong understanding of Cisco Prime, ISE, CMX/DNA
Strong understanding of Splunk and InfoBlox
Good understanding of Cisco Umbrella and other cloud web filtering platforms
Strong understanding of Netflow and network performance monitoring tools. Experience with Solarwinds and/or Netscout.
Strong understanding of Network Fundamentals, protocols and technologies TCP/IP, VLAN, WAN, MPLS, DNS, DHCP, IPSEC, TLS, NAT, PAT, VPN, BGP, OSPF, Etc.
Strong communication, both written and oral
PHYSICAL DEMANDS / WORKING CONDITIONS
Some travel may be required
On-call on rotation
Minimum of 5 years' experience in a professional information technology environment
The successful candidate must be able to show their expertise with infrastructure and be able to demonstrate a proven history for engineering solutions for infrastructure operations, monitoring and reliability
The successful candidate must have an insatiable drive to continuous improvement and passion for growth as a technology professional
Minimum of 5 years related experience supporting LAN/WAN environment.
3 – 5 years related experience with telecom keyed and VoIP systems. Hands on experience with Avaya and other on prem and cloud solutions
3 years small to medium size project management experience
Hands on experience with highly virtualized environments for both server and network infrastructure
High level of experience with various server and client operating systems and their optimal performance in the networked environment
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science/IT or a related field of study and/or 5+ years of equivalent IT working experience
