The Recreational Program Manager (RPM) reports to the Executive Director and is part of the Management team which works to facilitate a smooth-running gymnastics club.This includes the development, implementation, organization, publicity, and evaluation of all recreational programs for participants of all ages. Encourages “One Team” participation and gym ownership as a critical part of Ortona with no differentiation between programs (Competitive vs Recreational, etc.). The Program Manager role has no formal direct reports.

Overview

  • Operates as a professional in tone, management and appearance, and always represents the Club in a professional manner.
  • Plays a key role in the overall success of the Club and works closely as a team player. This means open and fluid lines of communication.
  • Provides feedback on the soundness and effectiveness of programs, policies and procedures.
  • Adheres to all corporate policies, guidelines and statutory requirements.
  • Ensures consistent delivery of technical skills across all recreational programs.
  • Provides back-up support to coaches and other senior staff as needed.
  • Works within the Club to resolve problems, facilitate solutions and enhance customer service and safety.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by the Executive Director.

Job Duties

  • Responsible for the overall coordination, administration, implementation, promotion, management and evaluation of recreation programs, activities, and projects - this includes, but not limited to:
  • KinderGym
  • CanGym
  • CanJump
  • Invitational Rec
  • Field Trips
  • Birthday Parties, and Special events
  • Summer Camps
  • Assist in recruiting and selecting quality personnel.
  • Facilitate in organizing and scheduling coaches to ensure the timely completion of assigned duties, and to ensure that all work is completed following established safe work practices.
  • Assist in the management and operation of the gymnastics areas within the facility.
  • Coordinate with Customer Service Reps to ensure streamlined and accurate dissemination of information and implementation of programs.
  • Manage customer complaints
  • Collaborate with the Competitive & Associate Program Managers & Discipline Program Leads in preparing rotations.
  • Identify staff development and training needs and bring forward to the Management Team
  • Maintain records, reports, and compose correspondence relative to the work.
  • Coach recreational programs, as required.
  • Provide instruction, workshops for young/new coaches and CIT program.
  • Conduct and attend meetings regarding safety, orientation, etc.
  • Assist the implementation and monitor the feeder system into the various disciplines of gymnastics.
  • Responsible for attending gymnastic workshops or other training opportunities to expand knowledge and increase program productivity.

Requirements

  • Degree in Business, Physical Education or Education with an emphasis on Recreation & Leisure;
  • Degree, Certification/Diploma in Early Childhood Development an asset, Disability & Rehabilitation Studies an asset;
  • Minimum of 5 years of gymnastics experience as a coach or athlete, previous CanGymand/or CanJumprecreational program management;
  • Experience or training in working with children
  • Able to deal with people sensitively, tactfully, diplomatically, and professionally at all times
  • Strong customer service focus.
  • Some experience in programming community recreation activities, and/or sport leagues.
  • Some supervisory experience or a combination of experience and training which provides the equivalent scope of knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the work.
  • Strong delegation, flexibility, planning and leadership skills
  • Effectiveness in safety and productivity
  • Commitment to working in a team environment, with established team building abilities

  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft computer software (e.g. Excel, Word, etc.) and email
  • Strong problem identification and problem resolution skills.
  • Highly conscientious, along with an energetic and mature approach to his or her work.

Working Conditions

  • Travel may be required.
  • Ability to work days, evenings, weekends, holidays and overtime as required.
  • Ability to attend and conduct presentations.
  • Must be physically capable of performing a wide variety of physical tasks including walking, running, sitting, lifting, crouching, kneeling and jumping for extended periods of time.
  • May perform work at heights.
  • Manual dexterity required to use desktop computer and peripherals.
  • Lifting or moving up to 50lbs may be required.
  • Work will be performed in both indoor and outdoor environments in a variety of weather conditions.
  • Full-time position
  • Schedule will require day-time, weekend, and evening hours during September to June
  • Summer months will be day-time hour Monday to Friday

Starting Wages: Commensurate with experience, certifications.

Vacation: 3 weeks

Required for Employment: Current Criminal Records Check and Alberta Child Intervention Check;Standard First Aid (minimum) and Respect in Sport certification to be obtained within first three months of hire if not already completed.
