This is a permanent full-time position based on 28.5 hours per week permanent and 2.5 hours contract until March 31, 2020. Schedule will vary according to requirements and responsibilities required. Shifts include a ½ hour paid meal break where applicable. Supervisor will set the hours of work and work schedule.

To ensure that the program participants physical needs (food, clothing, etc.) are well met. This includes assistance with personal care needs.
To assist the day program participants in meeting their emotional and psychological needs.
Being involved in the planning, implementation and evaluation of treatment/rehabilitation plans in conjunction with day program participants, team members and other staff and professionals.
To have a working knowledge of the application and maintenance of treatment procedures for each individual day program participant in your specific program.
To support the efforts made to meet day program participants’ spiritual needs by way of demonstrated interest and participation in programming activities where necessary.
Demonstrate an understanding of the psychological and social dynamics of working with developmental and behaviourally challenged individuals.
Working cooperatively with day program team members in providing coordinated and consistent approaches to residents.
To endeavour to develop strong therapeutic relationships with day program participants and their families.
Ensure the proper and accurate recording of all daily logs, shift reports, incident reports, statistics, etc.
Assist day program participants in attending all required professional appointments as directed by Program Coordinator - STRIVE or Supervising staff.
Responsible for the administration and accurate documentation of medication, as necessary.
Responsible for the general upkeep, cleanliness and maintenance of the various day program locations.
Responsible to assist with any type of client emergencies that may arise during the shift.
Responsible for transportation of clients to and from specific destinations as required
To train new staff and provide complete program orientation as well as work with program participants.
To promote greater independence and strive towards the highest quality of living possible.
Other duties as assigned by the Program Coordinator - STRIVE, Supervising staff, Program Manager or Executive Director
Completion of a Developmental Services Worker Diploma or equivalent in Human Services field.
Minimum two (2) years or prior related experience working with adults with developmental disabilities and vulnerable populations, essential.
Experience in developing, implementing and evaluating of effective individualized program plans.
Experience in accessing and networking with community resources
Current First Aid & Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation with Defibrillation training and current Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Certification required
Pharmacology training and experience in medication administration necessary.
Lifts and Transfer training an asset.
Personal Care Support experience an asset.
Valid Ontario Class “G” or “G2” Driver’s License, own vehicle, insurance, and a current Driver’s Abstract that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team to provide a supportive and nurturing environment.
Good communication skills – verbal, written and e-mail
French language written and verbal skills an asset
Must have strong computer skills and experience using Microsoft Office, email etc.
Provide an original copy of a Background Check with vulnerable sector screening (where applicable) that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required. The screening is secured either through the National Canadian Police Information Centre (CPIC) or through a local police detachment.
May require screening through The Salvation Army Abuse Registry.
