As a member of the Intellectual Property and Legal Affairs department, the Intellectual Property Legal Assistant supports the team by performing various IP-related administrative duties to ensure that the department is running efficiently and effectively.
Snapshot of Responsibilities
Manage an IP Docketing System to keep track of all deadlines
Prepare documents for submission to various patent offices worldwide (e.g. USPTO, CIPO, WIPO) and file the same
Update patent status on a regular basis
File assignment documents and other correspondence
Communicate with patent offices and foreign associates
Support IP professionals in preparation of documents including IP-related correspondence and presentation slide decks
Undertake various other administrative duties to support department administrator as required - scheduling travel, expenses, etc.

What you bring to the team
Successful of a post-secondary education, preferably in a Legal Assistant or Law Clerk program
3+ years’ experience as an Intellectual Property Legal Assistant or equivalent, preferably in the patent area
Knowledge of Orbit Asset is considered an asset
Exceptional written and verbal communication and organizational skills
Attention to accuracy, detail and deadline
Microsoft Office and Internet skills
Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
Capable of working individually and/or in a team setting
Ability to adapt and be flexible; positive attitude and excellent interpersonal skills
