Job Purpose
Performing a supporting role within the GroundTruth Exploration Operations Group, the Purchasing Expeditor is responsible for the supply chain of equipment and supplies from the supplier to the warehouse, warehouse to field camp, field camps to HQ, and HQ to shipping agent. This includes, but is not limited to; planning, organization, acquisition and mobilization of all gear, supplies, equipment and food required for projects and field teams.
Expeditor Operational Responsibilities:
Basic Responsibilities
- Responsible for maintaining adequate communication with all members of field crews on projects at all times.
- Responsible for establishing and maintaining communications with all Managers.
- Prepare all GroundTruth Field packs and camp kits ahead of the field season.
- Maintain working inventory and sign out system for all GroundTruth field gear.
- Ensure all field season equipment and sampling supplies are acquired and delivered to designated locations on time.
- Ensure all field crews are supplied with necessary field equipment as per SOP documents.
- Ensure all GroundTruth camp and field packs are signed out, maintained and equipment is repaired as necessary.
- Ensure GroundTruth compound and storage areas are kept clean and organized.
- Organize project logistics and mobilization with Project Managers and GroundTruth Management.
- Support logistics in the field for survey crews as necessary.
- Ensure food orders, resupplies and sample shipments are organized and executed with field crews.
- Ensure GroundTruth Health and Safety protocols are being followed by all staff and communicate relevant info with PMs and GroundTruth management.
- Coordinate with Project Managers and Supervisors to support field programs and ensure success.
- Ensure safe, professional and competent conduct is maintained by all staff members.
- Ensure Tracking, Inventory, Ordering and timesheets are maintained accurately, kept current and communicated with GroundTruth.
- Sample retrieval, organization and shipping.
- Able to safely operate a vehicle and trailer in remote field settings.
- Other duties as assigned.
Safety Responsibilities
- Responsible for working competently, safely and professionally at all times – in the field, in camp and transit.
- Required to wear and maintain all necessary Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
- Responsible for maintaining a clean and safe worksite.
- Must report all Hazards, Near Misses, Close Calls, Incidents, Injuries and Non-Conformances.
- Must refuse to do any work that is unsafe and work towards a safe alternative.
Qualifications:
- Standard First Aid Level C, CPR & AED Certificate.
- Class 5 Drivers License
Personal Attributes:
- Experience driving on unmaintained backroads
- Experience driving with heavy loads and trailers
- Basic truck maintenance skills (how to change a tire, check the fluids etc)
- Strong organizational skills
- Excellent communication abilities
- Familiarity with Google services considered and asset
Working Conditions
The Expeditor position requires employees to work outside in various terrain and weather conditions. The weather conditions include but are not limited to; a temperature range of -20°C up to +35°C, very dry to very humid climate, heavy rainfall, wind and snow. Terrain can vary from rolling hills to steep mountain sides. Work days are 12-hour shifts that run 7 days a week for the duration of the project unless otherwise stated. Project locations may be reached by a variety of transportation methods such as; truck, helicopter, boat, fixed-wing aircraft or all-terrain vehicles. Exploration projects are frequently remote and isolated. It is important to recognize that transportation between the project and the city may take upwards of 10 hours.
Physical Requirements
Employees will be expected to have a degree of physical strength and stamina in order to perform the job responsibilities. Physical strength (lifting up to 50lbs) and stamina (working 12-hour shifts) are required in order to perform job tasks that could require considerable use of the arms, legs and back.
Should you have any medical conditions that may be serious in nature such as but not limited to; severe allergies, breathing conditions, heart conditions, diabetes, epilepsy and others, it is highly recommended that you inform the Safety & Training Officer, your Supervisor and Project Manager. It is important that the company knows what kind of care you require in the event of an emergency. Remember, it may take 10 or more hours to transport a person in need of professional medical care from a project location to a health center.
Gear Requirements
Exploration Field Gear from GroundTruth Exploration is to be used strictly for company fieldwork and will be assigned at the beginning of the season. A gear deposit of $300 is required and will be deducted from your first paycheck. All employees will be responsible for the maintenance and care of the gear. The $300 deposit will be returned at the end of the season when you have returned all of your field gear and it is deemed to be in reasonable condition. Employees will be required to supply appropriate gear including; work clothes and underlayers, work gloves, full rain gear (jacket and pants), appropriate work boots with rigid ankle support, personal camping gear (3 season personal tent, -10C sleeping bag, Thermarest) and a Leatherman or similar multi-tool knife.
