The South Health Campus (SHC) is more than just a “hospital”, it is a campus environment and includes inpatient, outpatient, and wellness services, as well as prevention and public health learning opportunities for the community. The campus also includes a YMCA and retail services. The SHC has four key pillars of service: Collaborative Practice, Wellness, Patient and Family Centered Care, and Innovation. These pillars are guiding the development and delivery of service to all patients and families at SHC. The Allied Health Department works collaboratively with all the clinical teams spread across the South Health Campus. The primary caseload for this Therapy Assistant position is on the In-Patient Medical Care Units. The Therapy Assistant may also be required to cover wound care, the ICU, group exercise classes, Orthopedics, Recreation Therapy, group teaching classes and other acute care units based on operational needs. Under the general supervision from the Allied Health Assistant Manager this position also involves performing various department support functions and providing direct patient care as directed by the Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, Recreation Therapists and Speech Language Pathologists and Audiologists. This position is physically demanding and requires repetitive lifting and transferring of patients and or equipment. The caseload for all positions within the Allied Health department may be subject to change based on operational considerations. Please note this position involves weekend shifts as per rotations.
As a Therapy Assistant, you will work both individually and as part of an interprofessional team under the assignment, monitoring and evaluation of an audiologist, occupational therapist, physiotherapist, recreation therapist or speech-language pathologist.
