Job Description

What You’ll Be Doing

Archivist will help the CIBC Archives team acquire, preserve, and provide access to the bank’s information of long-term business, legal and historical value. Archivists actively engage employees and clients in the discovery and understanding of our rich history. You will also review backlog of boxes and ledgers and prepare a detailed inventory to facilitate appraisal. As records are appraised, Archivists will start processing, arranging and describing records that will be kept, and will manage the destruction of records that are not of archival value. Additional duties include updating the Archives database; working with the records schedule to determine current equivalent of historical records; ensuring all destroyed records are properly documented; carrying out basic preservation measures; and other duties as required.

Must be able to lift and move boxes and ledgers of up to 50 pounds and climb a 10-foot ladder to access records.

Some records are dirty and some working areas are dusty with fluctuating temperatures.

How You’ll Succeed

Work independently and as part of a team to prepare detailed digital file listings of unprocessed boxes and detailed digital descriptions of unprocessed ledgers to allow for records appraisal by CIBC Archivists.
Compare historical records to current records schedule to determine contemporary equivalents.
Process, arrange and describe records that will be kept and will organize and document the destruction of records that are not of archival value.
Update changes in Archives database as required.
Who You Are

You have a graduate degree or are in the process of completing a degree in the field of Archives, Information Management or related discipline. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Knowledge of Canadian history an asset.
You have experience in Microsoft Office, especially Excel and Word. Experience with DBText would be an asset.
