Location: Desert Sands Community School

Hours of Work 5.5 hrs/day (27.5 hours/week)

Desert Sands Community School enrolls approximately 290 students in grades Kindergarten through 12, and approximately 40% of students declare Indigenous ancestry. Desert Sands Community School is working to support the creation of high quality, beautiful work that they are proud of. Our collective goal is to scaffold the use of quality and meaningful feedback, critique, and revision.

DESCRIPTION OF POSITION:
Under the supervision of the Early Learning Program Manager, is required to facilitate before school care and child care. The successful applicant is expected to:
  • Interact positively with children, encouraging play and peer interaction
  • Ensure safe, caring environment for children
  • Support the development of each child as a capable, unique individual
  • Collaborate with the program manager to implement program activities based on the BC Early Learning Framework
  • Follow the program manager’s direction for scheduling, programming, supervision, etc.
  • Provide overall supervision of children, including toileting support, as needed
  • Help children resolve conflicts and comfort them, as needed
  • Communicate positively and effectively, and interact as a collaborative and consultative team member
REQUIREMENTS OF POSITION:
  • Grade 12 or equivalent
  • Successful completion of an Early Childhood Education diploma
  • One year’s experience as an Early Childhood Educator
  • A valid First Aid Certificate
  • Successful experience working with children of Indigenous ancestry
  • Experience in implementing quality play-based learning strategies
  • Ability to take direction from the supervisor and work as part of a team including district and school professional relationships with caregivers and colleagues
  • Effective communication skills in verbal, written and electronic format
  • Strong problem-solving and organizational skills
  • Physical ability to perform all aspects of the position
