The Director, After Stroke is responsible for delivering the After Stroke strategic plan and delivering a network of community-based programs and services, from coast to coast, for stroke survivors and their families, ensuring that they get the right support at the right time. The role will provide strategic leadership and direction for After Stroke (and Stroke Recovery Association of BC) Program Teams and will manage the overall budget, delivering on ambitious business plans within the framework of the After Stroke and MODC strategy. As a member of the Senior Management team, the Director plays a critical role in helping March of Dimes Canada achieve its vision to provide high quality programs locally and nationally. The incumbent is instrumental in ensuring consistent and effective internal processes and communications in order to strengthen MODC’s programs and position the organization and its subsidiaries for continued success and growth.
- Overall responsibility for the development of annual business plans for the After Stroke strategy, leading and directing expansion strategies, developing and building strategic partnerships in existing and new regions or provinces and strengthening internal program operations and infrastructure.
- Collaborate with key internal partners as follows: Community Engagement and Integration Services to ensure the organization is effectively integrating programs and driving a positive consumer experience for Canadians living with stroke; Marketing and Fund Development in order to build and develop branding and secure and support fundraising initiatives; Research, Evaluation and Reporting in order to develop and maintain appropriate impact measures for the activities in the portfolio.
- Manage and develop the team and establish standards of performance across all programs, as well as lead and contribute to an open, learning, innovative, collaborative and inclusive culture across the program.
- Ensure that legal, financial and other risks are well managed throughout the program’s delivery and that focus, engagement and momentum amongst internal and external stakeholders is created and maintained.
- Collaborate and develop relationships with key external partners within healthcare systems, hospitals and other health-related and voluntary sector agencies to facilitate collaboration and develop new funding relationships.
- Ensure the effective financial management of the program, including managing the overall budget and grant based income streams, and providing statistical and financial analysis as required.
- Participate on internal and external committees, task forces and at meetings as a representative of the organization.
- University Degree in Nursing, Health Administration, or a related field
- Five years’ experience in a senior management position with demonstrated leadership skills in managing multiple departments or a large team within a diverse, multi-program organization, preferably in the voluntary sector
- Previous experience working in social services or health management
- Knowledge of stroke disease management, policy and practice
- Strong working knowledge of the Canadian healthcare and non-profit sectors
- Experience with developing external partnerships, strategic networking and serving as a spokesperson at the local and national levels
- An effective communicator at all levels in the organization, with excellent written and oral skills including presentations to senior management, various Boards and committees and external partners/clients
- Excellent organizational and planning skills
- Excellent conceptual, analytical and problem solving skills
- Demonstrated ability to scan the organizational and professional environment, to interpret risks and opportunities, develop contingency plans, and to plan appropriate, strategic responses
- Effective team building, leadership and interpersonal management skills required for relationship building, with strong ability to motivate teams to produce deliverables within approved time frames as well as simultaneously manage several projects
- Values diversity of thought, backgrounds and perspectives
- Strong mentoring, coaching experience to a team with diverse levels of expertise
- Understanding of organizational design and effectiveness concepts and implementation strategies
